Basically, accepting that document as perfect evidence when they aren't even accepted by the passport authorities seems a bit spurious. I can understand Lakin's position, although I fully believe that Obama was born in Honolulu and is therefore a native born citizen. I am sorry, this man has chosen his path and the onus isn't on Obama! The President has been legitimized by the very fact that if the Republicans didn't believe he was a US citizen they would be impeaching him! Plus he has a passport and a drivers's license, both as you stated can't be obtained without a birth certificate, right, so how does he think Obama got all these without one? He just wanted his 15 minutes of fame or to get out of going to Afghanistan. The presidents can't be running after every request made by American citizens.

Since those records are also hidden Larkin has no idea where the passport was from.

Basically the "birthers" or "birther-curious" (that is funny, I'll keep it), tend to think that if you are traveling to Pakistan when the US is considered "bad" you get a passport from Indonesia where you are a citizen.

This is based on the fictional story that he stopped in Indonesia to visit his mother. That was impossible because his mother happened to be filing for divorce in Hawaii at that time (not from his father, from his step-father or adopted father)... The theory of the proofers, birthers, or birth-curious, is he stopped to renew his Indonesian passport which was going to expire soon.

Other theories. He stops you from gaining access to any of his college records because he went to college using his Indonesian citizenship as a step into school as schools were pressured at the time to have foreign students, often giving them scholarships and letting them transfer into them from "lesser" schools... (I have no idea if there was pressure and don't really care if he used his dual citizenship to get a better deal, basically I don't care about his college records.)
 
What happened to his mother being an American citizen and therefore, unless she gave that up, he by rights is one, also? Did that law just go away?

the burden of proof was on him so he lost when he could not produce a birth certificate from a foreign nation

i think that he was a fool and wanted to set a precedent
 
As far as Obama simply producing a birth certificate Anderson Cooper noted enlisted personnel from Hawaii use the same type of birth certificate as Obama. Would this open the door to troops demanding to see their superior officer's birth certificate before carrying out orders?

As others have noted his family will suffer. Assuming he has a wife he may lose his pension which is probably considerable as his salary is almost $8,000/mth. Also, taking into account Lt. Col. Lakin's distinguished career and the medals he has received I'm surprised his lawyer has not requested a mental evaluation of his client.

Well, not really surprised. It seems to me the Birthers are using this man and aiding him in destroying himself.

how can he meet his burden when he is denied discovery wrongfully?....why was he denied discovery? on what basis? he met the criteria under hawaii statutes, eg, he had a legal interest and ongoing case in the matter....

mccain's was produced...but oh no....god forbid obama release his

its stupid, if he is going to spend the time producing an COLB....he can spend the time producing a copy of the original....as a lawyer he knows that a certified copy of the original is the BEST evidence....yet he refuses to give it

i know for a fact if this was bush the lefties would be screaming he was hiding something.....oh wait....they did this to bush and his records....nevermind
