5 year old's family can't afford cancer treatment, so the kid draws to save his life

Geez....things got all quiet all of a sudden...

Well the parents were going to put their house up for sale, the kid's drawings made over $30k enough for them to pay for his treatment and keep the house.

He was going to get the treatment one way or another. If that were my child, I'd rather depend on the doctors, ourselves, and insurance than having the government get first crack.

Yesterday went to get my hearing aids serviced and was speaking with the doc about costs to replace. She replied that when health care/insurance starts paying, we'll see the prices fall dramatically. I asked when they are not covered, when Viagra is. The legislators answer has always been, "They are not necessary for quality of life." Uh, huh! Just for little things, like jobs. They could have been included in insurance years ago, but nope. Nothing makes me think they'll be in any health care 'reforms' coming up either. Over $6k every 5-8 years.

Nope, keep the politicians away from my health care.

while i think medicare should be expanded to cover situations like this....this kid and family did it on their own without needing the government. i think that scares the left because most on the left believe we must depend on the government for all things.

Cool story, sis. And if your child had this disease, and you had no insurance, or it wouldn't pay because you'd exceeded your coverage limit, or the insurance company claimed a pre-existing condition or other exclusion?

copy cat....

Why don't you tell Obama and maybe John Kerry about this poor kid.....they should be able to kick in a few bucks for his treatment....
and If thats not enough we'll send an email to Oprah and and few other super rich.

"A little boy fighting cancer is selling pictures he has drawn of his favourite monsters to pay for the treatment that could save his life."

That's kinda fucked up that a 5 year old has to do artwork to make sure he doesn't die :whoa:

(Excerpt) 'I am very proud of Aidan, we all are. He had what is called a Hickman, it's a line going in under the skin in the center of his chest.

'It runs under the skin to an artery at his collar bone, and then down the inside of the artery to his heart, it's how his chemo and fluids are administered.

'Aidan’s Hickman got infected after a month and a half, it had to be removed immediately without time to schedule anaesthesia. (End)

And folks talk about having to wait for scheduling in countries with government medical. :palm:

And people say "pay or suffer" medicine is superior to government medical. :palm:

And people say "pay or suffer" hospitals will do whatever is necessary to save a patient's life even if they don't have money. :palm:

What is the point of even discussing government medical with such folks?

He got the treatments, in spite of the costs. His parents said nothing about his not getting care, immediate care. If the costs of treatment were high enough above my insurance would I sell my house to pay? Of course. I guess some wouldn't? Shrug.

Is that your contingency plan for every uninsured person in the USA?

Just wondering.

Well no need to worry anymore. Obama has fixed it all, right? If you thinking medical costs are high now, wait until they are 'free.'

Does this mean you want to tax the rich, Bravo-Birther? :whoa:
No need to force them to cough up the money......they are liberals and will be more than happy to donate ......
You donate don't you....big bucks like your VP.....

What constitutes "immediate care"? Any and all treatments necessary or limited treatments and simply dealing with the symptoms?

And what about this? (Excerpt) Reuters - Nearly 45,000 people die in the United States each year -- one every 12 minutes -- in large part because they lack health insurance and can not get good care, Harvard Medical School researchers found in an analysis released on Thursday.

"We're losing more Americans every day because of inaction ... than drunk driving and homicide combined," Dr. David Himmelstein, a co-author of the study and an associate professor of medicine at Harvard, said in an interview with Reuters.

Overall, researchers said American adults age 64 and younger who lack health insurance have a 40 percent higher risk of death than those who have coverage.(End)

Too late. I blew all my money on body work and a paint job along with some rechroming for my old Pontiac. Thank God I don't need money for a doctor!

Eh, hasn't medicare been around for something like 45 years?

There was plenty of time to expand it.
