I can see the agonized rants now: "Obama bans cell phones"....

Well, since there are no agonized rants we may have to provide a few to cover for Rootbeer. Can't have a person smart enough to post on JPP all hanging out there with a couple quotes from some dude in Florida his only evidence of rants...

The Dancin' Dalai is pretending that my premise was that any agonized rants would originate solely from the handful who post on JPP.

That's not the case, and I am correct, as I have amply proven.

Lots of agonized rants out there in the big world beyond JPP.

Dance, Damocles.

I don't see any agonized rants either. OP failed.

Your failure to see the evidence is your responsibility. Perhaps...

1) You don't consider crying about 'Obama's nanny state' to be agonized ranting...

2) You didn't read my sources, cited in this thread.

Not my problem.

Thread success.

Is this an agonzied rant?

...I see stupid people every day on the highway texting and talking on cell phones. No law is going to make them stop, they'll just try to be more discreet about it and cause more accidents. In fact, I'd almost bet that IF a ban is put in to effect, accidents and deaths will go up, not down.

Since the laws against murder, rape and robbery aren't 100% effective as deterrents, should they be repealed?

Handheld Cell Phones: 9 states, D.C. and the Virgin Islands prohibit all drivers from using handheld cell phones while driving. Except for Maryland, all laws are primary enforcement—an officer may cite a driver for using a handheld cell phone without any other traffic offense taking place.

  • Novice Drivers: 30 states and D.C. ban all cell phone use by novice drivers.
  • School Bus Drivers: Bus drivers in 19 states and D.C. may not use a cell phone when passengers are present.
Text Messaging: 35 states, D.C. and Guam ban text messaging for all drivers. 32 states, D.C., and Guam have primary enforcement; the others, secondary.
  • Novice Drivers: An additional 7 states prohibit text messaging by novice drivers.
  • School Bus Drivers: 3 states restrict school bus drivers from texting while driving.
Some states such as Maine, N.H. and Utah treat cell phone use and texting as part of a larger distracted driving issue. In Utah, cellphone use is an offense only if a driver is also committing some other moving violation (other than speeding).
Crash Data Collection: Many states include a category for cell phone/electronic equipment distraction on police accident report forms.

Preemption Laws: Many localities have passed their own distracted driving bans. However, some states – such as Fla., Ky., La., Miss., Nev., and Okla. – prohibit localities from enacting such laws...

Arkansas also bans the use of handheld cell phones while driving in a school zone or in a highway construction zone. This law is secondarily enforced.

Hawaii does not have a state law banning the use of handheld cell phones. However, all of the state's counties have enacted distracted driving ordinances.

[SUP][/SUP]Idaho has a "Distraction in/on Vehicle (List)" attribute as part of its Contributing Circumstances element, and officers are supposed to list the distractions in the narrative.

Illinois bans the use of handheld cell phones while driving in a school zone or in a highway construction zone.

In Michigan, teens with probationary licenses whose cell phone usage contributes to a traffic crash or ticket may not use a cell phone while driving.

New Hampshire enacted a comprehensive distracted driving law.

South Carolina has a Distracted/inattention attribute under Contributing Factors.

Texas has banned the use of hand-held phones and texting in school zones.

Utah's law defines careless driving as committing a moving violation (other than speeding) while distracted by use of a handheld cellphone or other activities not related to driving.

what is agonzied?

sucks when your petty spelling nazi bullshit bites you in the ass....huh legion...

and no, his post does not satisfy your claim of a rant in the OP. you fail again.

No rants so far?

Cool. Okay, guys... GO! Time for ranting. Can't leave the dude hanging all out in the wind like this.

Here's my first attempt:
You kids... Get off my lawn! With your cell phones, always talking about nothing! Texting they call it... But really it's just a way to keep from actually talking to people like we did back in the 20th! Once I even wrote a letter that wasn't sent by computer, and even a thank you note! There outta be a law!

What're you still doing here? GET OFF MY LAWN!

The Dude may slowly be turning into the old fuck damo described. I've seen texting from teens in mustangs to trophy wives in BMW's making them drive like they were on heroin. That said, I haven't played yard whiffle ball with kids in 20 years.

The majority of smart phones have inertial sensors and GPS, so it should be very easy to stop people sending texts whilst driving.
