Biden on GOP: “They don’t know what it means to be middle class”

He actually said this at a $10,000 a head dinner.

Biden made the remarks at the Georgetown home of Senator John Kerry, where some 87 guests paid a minimum of $10,000 per couple to dine on char-grilled grass-fed New York strip steaks and white truffle mashed potatoes beneath a tent basked in soft pink lighting. Biden told attendees that he is confident about Obama’s reelection because Republicans are being open about their intent to cut programs important to a large swatch of the electorate — the middle class.

“These guys don’t have a sense of the average folks out there,” he said. “They don’t know what it means to be middle class.”

Pool reporter Tracy Jan of The Boston Globe noted some high-profile guests at the fundraiser, including “Elizabeth Bagley, former ambassador to Portugal and attorney specializing in trade and international law; Matthew Barzun, former Ambassador to Sweden who Obama has tapped to be his 2012 campaign finance chairman; Steven Green, former ambassador to Singapore; Bob Barnett, a Washington attorney who’s worked on eight national presidential campaigns helping candidates prepare for debates; Tom McMillen, former Maryland congressman; and Jack Manning, co-founder of Boston Capital.”

Obviously all those guests are members of the middle class, right?

:palm:

How funny is that.........poor Biden......he and Kerry don't know what it means to have ANY class.....

something i've always found interesting with liberals and conservatives. They are always fond of talking like their 'man' is just like us, or just an 'average folk', all the while completely avoiding any talk of the multi millions that said 'man' has as personal wealth. then when 'man' says something stupid, like Biden just did, they go all blah blah on the subject and talk about the most inane topic of the article....like what the dinner was.

Gee - was that about me, STY?

Biden comes from some pretty humble beginnings, btw.

Everybodys gotta start somewhere.......even Mr. Plagiarist Biden.......
Many go to Washington as newly graduated lawyers, middle class or upper middle and leave with their pockets full.....

Clinton, Pelosi, Harry Reid have all made some headlines in that regard on the last few years......and no doubt a
few Republicans can be added to the list...........and of course we can add Obama now.....

Hey - I thought it was libbies who condemned achievement and the accumulation of wealth?

Biden basically spent the 1st part of his life poor, and then somewhat middle class for the latter part of his youth. Even in his political career, he was not a "millionaire" by Senate standards; he earns about $300K a year, and still lives in a fairly modest house.

He certainly is someone who knows the middle class existence....

it was actually for almost everyone, but i thought it would be funny to jab at you for the truffles and potatos remark.

i know very little about Biden before him being a VP candidate. he makes a good run at taking over the bushism definition though

Well, I was serious about the truffled potatoes - they do sound good. And no doubt, Biden is a foot-in-mouth kind of guy. But he's a pretty unique politician money-wise - he was sort of an anomoly in the Senate, where pretty much everyone started with millions.

They only condemn OTHERS of getting rich and widening the gap between rich and poor.....you didn't forget about the double standard did you ?

Its constantly in you face and you overlook it just because they told you it wasn't really there, right ?

Joe seems to be the exception to the rule......not very good with his own economy and being only a heartbeat away from the US economy is scary....
I've seem his net worth estimated between 0 and 700,000......nothing to brag about ......
I guess hes not even important enough in Washington to bribe...lol

And Joe Biden is a shining example of someone who knows what it's like to be "middle class".

Do you lefty moonbats really believe this shit? Let me remind all of you dimwitted sawdust-for-brain moonbats, the middle class makes up 99.9% of the Tea Party and they kicked your ever-lying asses in 2010.

I think (notice, this is opinion) Biden knows more about being middle class than Romney, Paul or Newt. Even Santorum makes about 3 million per year....far from "middle class." I really think this is a problem that folks are going to have with either of these 4 guys. I have already stated who I would vote for and the order I would choose them. But as to this question of who knows what it means to be "middle class," after a quick research I think what I have stated above is correct....

How much is Joe Biden worth? I bet it's more than 3 million dollars. How about his wife? What's her income? I hear it's around a million a year.

Besides that, he made this statement at a fund raiser where each couple paid $10,000. Are they "middle class"?

You should check his background a little before you talk about it much. He grew up poor for years, and then middle class for the remainder of his youth. He's never made millions.

How long has he been on the govt dole? Lots of people grew up poor. That's not the point. The fact he said this at a $10,000 a couple fundraiser is kinda funny. I don't think too many "middle class" people can afford a contribution like that.

He's talking about understanding what it means to be middle class.

Do you think he's forgotten about the first 25-30 years of his life?
