death threads...sure. there are always wackos in every party, group etc.... boycotting....not intimidation at all. they are free to speak their mind and people are free to boycott. i think boycott's are usually stupid. but it is certainly not intimidation.

Death threats are a threat to life, boycotts are a threat to livelihood. It's ridiculous to say that a threat to livelihood isn't intimidating, or meant for intimidation.
If you don't like someone's opinion, counter it w/ one of your own. That's not what the boycott of the Chicks wanted to do - it just wanted to shut them up.
I believe in the marketplace of ideas. The people who boycotted the Chicks didn't; they just didn't want their opinion out there, at all.

They don't remember that onceler. If pressed they'll claim to have some vague memory of some smallish boycott, but certainly no memory of threats, of clear channel shutting the Dixie chicks down completely, hate mail, etc. it's the old republican who am I, where am I, how did I get here?

I know! We even got a new verb/adjective out of the deal. And a GREAT Chicks album; I loved the song they wrote about it.
I always thought that what they said was pretty innocuous, too, especially compared to the Nuge here. But Bush's crazies really dug in after Iraq...if you didn't agree with Bush, you were a traitor. Period.

you do not have a right to just say anything you want and expect no one to stop buying your product or service. you are delusional as always. boycotts are not intimidation, anymore than not voting for the next candidate because of X. if you are selling something to public and make a comment the public doesn't like, you don't have a right to expect the public to continue purchasing your product, nor do you have a right to expect the public to speak out against purchasing your product or service.
your logic is asinine. let us take your logic to it's logical conclusion:
person A doesn't want to vote for person B because of comments B made. A encourages others not to vote for B. B might not get elected, thus, his livelihood will be threatened. onceler wants us to not disparage B because his or her livelihood is threatened.
if you truly believe in the marketplace of ideas, you would not claim boycotts are a threat. i don't agree with most boycotts, but they are not a threat, they are form of speech that is protected under our constitution.
Ted's chin just keeps getting bigger as he gets older, like American Dad's chin.
