Many many comentators have said that if unemployment goes to 8.0 before November the President will be reelected.

8.1 and droping every month is a good sign!

Lol... it dropped because 356,000 people dropped out of the labor force Jarod.

I do think if unemployment keeps ticking down, most people who do not look at the cause of the drop will believe as you do... that it is a good thing. Thus, if it stays where it is or drops further (no matter the cause) it will be a benefit to Obama.

Unless of course someone points out why it is dropping.

what makes that a magic number.....and were these many, many commentators, liberals by chance?.....

I for one stated that if Obama got it ticking down to 8.0 (I believe it was about 8.9-9.0 when I said it) by the election that he was very likely to win re-election.

To be clear, people dropping out of the labor force is not a good thing, but it is the perception that matters. If the stock market hangs on and the people keep seeing the unemployment rate tick down, that is going to be a big boost for Obama. Most people won't bother looking at what is causing unemployment to tick down.

So basically you don't really care WHY it has dropped. You only care about how that will affect your messiah's chances of reelection.

personally I think you overlook a key factor....whether it's 8.1 or 8.0 or 7.9, a person who wants to work and can't or couldn't for a long time in the last 4 years or is married to someone who hasn't been able to find a job is NOT someone who's going to vote for Obama....I don't think you can say that, so long as only 8% of the country instead of 8.1% won't vote for Obama then he's still going to get elected....

You're oversimpifying what are actually complex reasons people have for voting. Many might be unemployed, but it's the perception of improvement that can matter as much as their own circumstances. If the feeling is that things are getting better, no one wants to mess with that.

Not saying that this will be the feeling - but it will be if the rate ticks down a couple of more notches, and the market reacts to that.

I'm one who dropped out of the labor force. And it's a great thing. Barring a serious issue Romney is going down big.

You are wrong here in that you phrased it as an absolute. Some of those people will not vote for President Obama, maybe even a majority of those people. But if those people see that President Obama has made unemployment benefits more available to them and belive that Romney would have limited those benefits they may have a differnt opinion. You are being very miopic. They also may belive that they dont have a job DESPITE President Obama's best efforts. They may also belive that they are about to get a job because of President Obama.

Romney gets crushed with 8 percent unemployment, and 2.5 GDP.
Check Intrade right now.

This country is extremely polarized right now. He is not going to get crushed with anemic growth and 8%. I think he will lose, but as I mentioned above, if people point out the reason unemployment is coming down it could also hurt Obama.

Obama is winning unfortunately, fuck by what margin.
Jobs actually gained and had 68,000 positive revisions for earlier months. It's a buying day not a crying day!

356000 people dropped out of the labor force this month. GDP growth is slowing. Jobs numbers are anemic... and not keeping pace with the increase in labor force.

Don't fall for lying Obamnuist announcements from big government DC.

And clean up your language, please. Children could see your filthy words.

God bless.
