A gunman who targeted Hispanics at a Texas Walmart won't face the death penalty

The Texas gunman who killed 23 people in a racist attack targeting "Mexicans" shoppers at a Walmart in El Paso in 2019, was sentenced to 23 consecutive life sentences, after he pleaded guilty in state court Monday morning.

Patrick Crusius accepted a plea deal offered by the El Paso District Attorney's office in return for not pursuing the death penalty.

The 2019 shooting is considered one of the worst attacks on Hispanics in the U.S. Hours before the attack, he published an online screed saying he was responding to the "Hispanic invasion of Texas."

Isn't Texas a death penalty state? Where's the cries of outrage from our resident right wing peanut gallery?
I would have rather that he got the death penalty. I don't understand why the prosecutor gave him a plea deal. I suspect the Prosecutor is anti Death Penalty in general.

The DA was James Montoya he is a DEMOCRAT.

He worked a plea deal and is in prison for life. While I'd prefer him to be offed, he got the life sentence deal and that's that. If he does some serious shit and crimes in prison, try him again and give him the death penalty for it, no plea deal or second chances.

The DA took the plea deal because:

It's far cheaper than a long, drawn out, trial
There's no chance of a technicality messing the outcome up.
The guy likely has near zero means to appeal his sentence meaning it's cheaper that way too.

He did a plea deal and got multiple life sentences.
But aren't jokers like you constantly screaming for the death penalty if one black person murders a white person? And if they get a similar sentence, don't you wail about "liberal bias" in the court system?

Naa-unnh, son. You don't get to weasel out that easy. Your initial reaction was to state a moot point, signifying that the perp got due process. NONE of the usual vitriolic outrage from the likes of you when the victim is white and the perp is either yellow, tan, brown or black. Your "bitching with mild tone" now is just covering your ass ... and of course insinuate that all democratic DA's are irrationally lenient. But as I schooled one of your brethren, that is not the case.

Time until a MAGAt starts screaming that liberals let him off the hook with a plea deal: 10...9....oh, wait. Never. Who am I fooling? LOL

All of the above.

As a Libertarian, I dislike empowering government to kill off its citizens in prison. In the heat of a shootout? Sure, shoot to kill. Imposing a death sentence? Not so much.

My position is that there are crimes so evil, heinous, and vile the perpetrator deserves to die for them. In addition, life without parole is a waste of time. We should just off such persons quickly so that they don't waste the public's resources. That one is somewhat debatable, but that's what I lean towards.

Lastly, any person that commits additional felonies, particularly violent ones like rape, murder, serious assault, and the like while in prison should be sentenced to death when convicted. This is because they have proven that they cannot simply be put in prison for some crime and serve time. Other inmates, the guards and staff, etc., should not be subject to dealing with someone like that that poses a real and proven danger to them.

Death is easy. Living in a 6X8 concrete and metal box is hard. Also, although it's not the case here, I have no doubt innocent people have been executed by the state and that, IMO, is both evil and heinous.

Build a better box.

Offing those that have proven no matter what they will continue to commit crimes is the only sure way to ensure they commit no more crimes. Spending tens, even hundreds, of thousands of dollars a year to keep some dangerous POS alive is a waste of resources.

Build a better box. How hard is that to understand?

Can you guarantee that no innocent people have been or will be executed? If not, what is an acceptable number? 1 out of 10? 1 out of 100? Out of 1000?
