Texas river flood leaves at least 13 dead and 20 children missing; camp evacuated by helicopter

The storm just stopped, and then dumped 5-6 times what was expected.....and I thought is moved strangely.

Bad luck maybe.....human intervention maybe.
Read the link. Over 600 people have already died in flash floods in the Hill Country in the past 115 years.

A low pressure system from the Gulf (lot of moister) collided with one from the west and that caused a slow moving thunder storm.

They issued a flash flood warning. The camp probably wasn't monitoring the weather.

Wednesday's WSJ has a more detailed article on the sequence of events. The NWS issued it's warning at 1:14 A.M., by around 2 A.M. the floods were already washing sites away. The Camp staff had already been evacuating kids, and by 4 .A.M. one staffer was standing on the roof of a cabin with water lapping at her feet. The river crested at 37 feet, over three stories high. The last flood like that was in 1932. They had an alert system in the past, via a beeper system, but it was unclear if it functioning at the time or just lapsed from disuse.

Why not? Flash floods killing kids is somewhat common. Someone should be monitoring the weather.

Every Cub Scout in the Southwest is taught to never camp in flood plains. People get complacent over years of no problems. The cabins were built on what was thought to be high enough ground, and had been since 1932, until now.

The staff was evacuating people. The water just rose too high and too fast for them. The Camp's director drowned rescuing kids. His vehicle got washed away. Google maps has a view of the camp and surrounding creeks and dams. It's on the south fork of the Guadalupe and Cypress Creek.

This is what failure looks like.

An ejection fraction of 30% or less is considered END STAGE. My former partner had a heart transplant because he got a viral myocarditis that damaged his heart, his EF before the surgery was 24%. I do not believe any doctor would think a patient with a 15% EF could work. Do you have any paper work?

Duh. Thanks for proving my point, which is illustrating how difficult it is to qualify for social security disability. Back then a disabled person had to wait for a year after being certified as disabled in order to begin getting Medicare. Now it's two years. Medicaid fills the gap between onset of disability and eligibility for Medicare coverage.

My husband died 20 years ago. The original MI that rendered him disabled at age 45 happened in Sept. 1994. More than one physician (not a Medicare doc) told him that he had only a year or two of life left. He made it 10. I really don't give a shit if you believe me. I don't believe most of what you claim, either. So we're even. lol

Huge numbers of people died on your watch.

U SUCK

Any Questions?
The camp director on all reports was a very nice man. But he FAILED these girls. He failed to take the NWS warnings seriously he failed to remain diligent and listen to the radio when the NWS was issuing warning thought the day . He apparently was asleep when the evacuation warning was issued. He did the right thing and put his life in danger to reduce the girls that he could. That is why he died. He had to know the past history of flooding in that area. Why he did not take action earlier is beyond me.

Yes, they're sub-human vermin, and get more so daily.
I actually feel sorry for them.... To live with that much hate and pain must be horrible... To feel the need to express it publicly even worse...

Well if you were a trust worthy person I might have believed you. But a doctor saying a person with a EF of 15% was able to work is far fetched. I don't believe it. I suspect you have your facts wrong. People with an EF of 15% are generally in CHF and near death. They struggle to walk across a room.

Now that the Foulwoman has relayed some of the enormous losses she has suffered it gives me a better understanding of her bitterness and hatred. And I suspect this is why she wants big government to save her. I honestly feel sorry for her losses but I dislike her behavior. Some people are changed for the worse when they experience loss.

Sorry, Twatmuffin, but no one gives a fuck. BTW, it's spelled "trustworthy." :rofl2:

Well whether you care or not is not important. But you should change your "facts" some to make your story more believable. People with 15% EF are generally being pushed around in wheelchairs because walking is too exhausting for them. I have found when people resort to being spelling Nazis on the internet you have won the argument. ;)
