The great blizzards of 2026

Insurance companies lose the most money on high-frequency, high-severity claims driven by severe weather (wind, hail, hurricanes, wildfires), auto accidents involving bodily injury, fire/lightning damage, and rising litigation/fraud. Coastal regions, wildfire zones, and areas with high repair costs dominate these massive payouts. iT IS A KNOWN FACT THAT INSURANCE COMPANIES USE THAT ZIP CODE BULLSHIT ON POOR BLACKS TO RECOUP THEIR LOSSES FROM HIGH END FREQUENT CLAIMS FROM HIGH END FUCKIN ZIP CODES...I GOT THE DATA AND THE FACTS TO PROVE IT, DEAR
In major disasters, like big winter storms, hurricanes, and the like, insurers back up their losses and are made whole by the government. That's really what FEMA is for and little else. You are nothing to FEMA and they don't give a shit about you. They're there to pay down the insurance company's losses so those companies don't go bankrupt.

Yes, I was born in the south, but I'm also a traveled being, after all I spent 10 years in the US Navy. The south is packed with immigrants and a lot of these ppl are not privy to snowy icy roads or being behind a auto...its maddening to see these ppl fresh off boats behind a wheels, especially these fuckin Africans.
You are just a wuss, couldn’t handle a winter in the NE

Oh, but I can.....I loath summers, hate the heat. Other than dealing with driving in the snow and shoveling, I could survive it. I love winter weather. love the cold.
Hey, you could be a snowbird, a quarter of Florida probably already is, as were a good number of Canadians until you know who turned them against us

I was stationed in Orlando during bootcamp in the 80's. It was August and man, talk about a fuckin heat wave...I recall always asking the white chics, how long do tans last, cause my black ass was literally turning coal black...LOL and then after bootcamp, they sent my black ass to San Diego and then after that, I was sent to Hawaii and then after that fuckin New Orleans....I couldn't escape these hot fuckin deportatons...true story!!

And that is why you can not drive in snow, plus, pretty sure you probably are driving a front wheel vehicle

Yes, a great deal of these homeowners do turn to FEMA, however claims are made by these devasted areas so much, that a lot of these states lose insurance companies because of it, Fla being an example. But never think for one second that insurers don't use these catastrophic events to raise premiums. As a matter of fact, State Farm has a provision that address it with their policies, its called Global something? All I know, I'm having to pay more because of it.

I'm retired and I got no place to go when the weather gets bad. I simply keep my black ass home where its safe. So far, we're iced down until hopefully next week. I got a bad knee and nothing and I mean nothing is more important than me and my safety.

Of course they do. They and FEMA also allow people to rebuild on the same spot in the same way to have their home and whatever destroyed in the next major storm to blow through. In Florida it is now possible to build hurricane resistant or even proof homes and buildings. Some people do and their home survives even the worst.

Try and pick out the hurricane proof house in this picture:

When hurricanes hit Puerto Rico it's worse. The building standards there are nearly Third World and that doesn't help.

I've done enough actual racing to know that on water or ice and you lose traction and start to spin you:

1. Shove the clutch to the floor (in an automatic put it in neutral)
2. Straighten the wheel and point the vehicle where you want to go

That pretty much fixes the problem unless you are seriously into the spin.
I grew up racing sprint and then regular cars in both summer and snowy winter months.

I would never put an automatic in neutral. The amount of power going to the wheels when you simply lift your foot is not worth the trade off of having immediate access to power should your tires grab and you can regain steering control.

Also when you first start to skid you immediately should steer into it. That will usually regain the tires traction and then you can try and steer the direction you want

Not on ice or when hydroplaning. When power is taken off, asymmetrical drift stops and the vehicle goes where steered. Like many things taught in driver's ed, the steer into the skid in these conditions is wrong. Power on on ice means it gets applied unevenly to the wheels and adds to instability. Momentarily taking power off allows you to recover in the turn or skid before reapplying power. The loss in speed can be minimal as there isn't much friction when on ice or hydroplaning.

The same can be done on very loose surfaces like doing the now famous "Scandinavian flick," what you are doing is counterintuitive to what you think you should be doing.

Ya I literally grew up doing rally car style racing. Drifting, skid recover, etc, winter, summer, rain and sand.

The amount of power being pushed to wheels in an automatic with your foot off the gas will almost always be less than the current inertia power and not meaningful. However having the ability to jump in the gas at tire grab moment can be the difference between drifting into a wall and pulling it out and recovering.

If you want to continue this point, I know of a reddit forum for rally car tips and strategy and we can bet and post this and you will find none of them would put their automatic in neutral. They would not give away that control.

I have friends up North that mocked Texans during the snow storm that hit the Super Bowl held at Jerry World in 2011. We had an excuse we don't have snow plows to clear the roads. Yankees can't drive any better than we can they just have better road prep. And when they don't have good road prep they crash.
What's this? A straight up disagreement with Fastlane? lol. I am here to tell you that those that deal with severe weekly winter storms can drive in horrible conditions much better than our Southern brothers and sisters. There's just no substitute for experience. Anyone like me that lived in a state with 6 months of hard winters for decades can't help but become very skilled in the art of winter driving. It's hilarious when I watch people in the south drive in 2 inches of snow.

So, should JPP ever have a 'meet the members' event in a northern state during the winter, I'll challenge you to a snow race on a frozen lake. It's a blast, for real. Somehow, I don't see that happening, but it would really be fun.

The Superbowl in 2011 was between Green Bay and Pittsburgh and I saw several Yankees whining about the roads and saying they had a hard time traveling them because of lack of plowing. Green Bay and Pittsburgh get a lot of snow but they have snow plows as soon as the snow get a couple inches thick. Plus they have salted roads. Just look under a 10 year old car from Texas and one from Geen Bay and tell me which has more rust. I have seen lots of news reports of major multiy car pileups in snow up north. My experience in Colorado was they were over confident about their ability to drive in snow.

LOL, I was just jabbing at you like I would in a bar and in that same good cheer, I'll say whatever you want to tell yourself, lol.

Call me crazy, but unless I'm a doctor or something....NO JOB IS WORTH GETTING OUT IN THIS DAMN SNOW. Its nerve wrecking watching the news each night with drivers sliding, gliding off streets, fights over spaces cleared of snow, etc...stay the hell home. This weather was so given days of warning before it hit...and typical arrogant dumb mf's waited until the last minute to get shit done, duh
For the first time in 15 years, an emergency happened and I was not needed. It is not retirement, but it is close.

Who gives a shit about who drives well on snow and ice and who doesn't. I Dont. I only care about how myself, family, other loved ones and friends do. Other that that people will either learn on their own or not,....up to them. None of my concern. HOPEFULLY they learn,....if not that's on them.

All I know is this.........I can drive thru damn near anything thrown at me. Not because I want to,...but because I HAD to learn, either that or move....LOL I can get thru just about anything if I'm in a Car, truck, four wheel drive, front wheel drive, real wheel drive,....doesn't matter. I go thru almost everything. ALMOST being the key word,...some shit you just aren't getting thru no matter how much experience you have.

Don't believe me? So here's what you do even if you are in a little rear wheel drive. First,...throw a damn snow shovel in the back. Then,....throw some sand tubes in the back too,...try to get them right over the back tires to put weight on those tires for better grip. Also,........throw a good sized bag of cat litter in the back too......the grittyness is great for getting out. Last,...if you do get stuck...................get that vehicle rocking back and forth between D and R.......use that momentum like a pendulum. You'll get out........ ;) oh,....and if you don't know what Im talking about here.........your fucked anyway. So just carry a cell phone with you to call a tow truck instead,
