19% Favorable Rating... Who is it? Bush? Nope!

Two points.
First, congressmen and senators always get low approval ratings. For one thing, they are not known nationally. Few people - outside of their constituents - know who they are, and thus are not likely to give them a seal of approval.
Secondly, I question this poll. It indicates that 72% of americans actually know who Robert Gates is, and are able to form an opinion of him. I seriously doubt that 72% of americans even know who robert gates is. I could walk outside, stand on the street, and randomly ask 100 people who robert gates is. And I guarantee you that far less than half the people I ask, even know who he is.

The poll was of "likely voters", people far more likely to keep apprised of exactly who Robert Gates might be.
Damo, I seriously doubt that 72% of even likely voters know who robert gates is. I suspect most people in my office voted in the last election. But, I bet at least half of them don't know who gates is. Maybe even more than half.
