Alhendi was arrested following a traffic stop on Interstate 85 near mile marker 44.
According to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, a State Transport Police officer pulled over a tractor trailer due to a missing license plate.
During the traffic stop, Alhendi told the officer that an explosive device was inside the commercial vehicle, officials said.
All lanes of the interstate were closed and bomb squads from the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division responded to the scene.
No explosive devices were found and the interstate reopened about five hours later.
The tractor trailer was registered to Globe Transportation of Illinois, the South Carolina Department of Public Safety said.
Alhendi is being held in the Greenville County Detention Center on $20,238 bond.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) placed a hold on Alhendi, a Jordanian national.
