4 Frightening Ways We're Reverting to the Dark Days of Our Past

What is the problem with unlimited political donations by an individual as long as it is documented? Money is going to find its way into politics. Today we have people giving any amount anonymously to PAC's. is that better?

What's the problem?
Let's say for the moment that I am Senator Dune. You donate 5 million to my campaign. Anti-party donates 5 bucks. Whose side do you think I am going to vote for? Democracy is not supposed to be for sale to the highest bidder. That is the problem.

At least you are honest and admit you are fucking sell out who would sell his soul to the highest bidder.

Well, the belief that money can buy politicians must have some merit.....Democrats are being elected....

The question is; who do you want running the country? US or someone else's money? You don't mind foreign influence buying the power of our government?

Who said anything about foreign money? We are talking about Americans. If I want to donate $1 million I can currently give $2,500 to a candidate and $997,250 to PAC's that will run ads on behalf of the candidate I support. To my understanding not all of my PAC money has to be disclosed. If I can donate an unlimited amount to a candidate my $1 million donation would have to be fully disclosed. The candidate is essentially getting the money either way. With the direct donation at least the public can know about it.

So all the foreign donations don't bother you?

The money isn't the point. The point is you donlt have to be disclosed . . . That is the avenue by which foreign money and influence can enter our political system directly. That's what I mean when I say whose money do you want running the country? There are very very shady Americans with nefarious motives that can silently bid on our government as well. I'm suprised your not considering that.

Which is why I'm arguing to allow for the elimination on the limits an individual can give to a candidate. That way it must be disclosed what that individual gave. I am arguing on behalf of disclosure. We set up these previous campaign-finance 'reforms' which moved us to the state we are in today where donors can give anonymously to PAC's who now have much more power. If foreign money is coming into this county (I don't know if it is or not, I've not followed or read about it) it's going through anonymous PAC's.

Ignorance is bliss.

I didn't read that in your comments, but good for you. I agree on full disclosure.

:palm: Read Kenneth's link. If you are really not a conservative, keep the partisanship out of your perspective about the article.

I'm aware of what 'progressives' consider progressive, just as i'm aware of the BS that 'conservatives' call constitutional, so maybe you should check again on who is partisan and who isn't.
