SPRINGFIELD-In a huge win for gun-rights groups, a federal appeals court in Chicago Tuesday tossed the state's ban on carrying concealed weapons and gave Illinois' Legislature 180 days to craft a law legalizing concealed carry.
"The debate is over. We won. And there will be a statewide carry law in 2013," said Todd Vandermyde, a lobbyist for the National Rifle Association.
In a split opinion (see below), the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals reversed a lower court ruling in two cases downstate that upheld the state's longstanding prohibition against carrying concealed weapons.
Illinois is the only state with an outright prohibition on concealed carry.
Do you have another link? This isn't working for me, and neither is the one on FB.
no doubt. It leaves me wondering just how broke Illinois is willing to go in order to maintain as much gun control as possible.Ok. So they have 180 days to craft CC legislation. Bet it's gonna make CA look like a gun paradise. But a win, no matter how small, is still a win.

It's part of the "the sign of intelligence is agreeing with me" state of mind.Does this mean the 7th isn't a bunch of black-robed tyrants any more?
It will end up like California, where the only place that you can actually get a conceiled carry permit are in northern counties with less than 250,000(?) Population, in the rest of the Counties, getting one is like pulling teeth, hard to do. Arizona has great CCW shall issue laws, and open carry is permited. The Liberals will get the best of the Pro gun Illinos folks, just like they did beating Romney, with a can issue CCW permits law, not shall issue CCW permit laws, like AZ has. Buy plenty of ammo now, who knows the future....Federal appeals court strikes down Illinois concealed carry law
In a big victory for gun rights advocates, a federal appeals court on Tuesday struck down a ban on carrying concealed weapons in Illinois _ the only state where it had remained entirely illegal.
