Harvard was founded in 1636 and Newton didn't publish Principia Mathematica until 1687. Liebnitz was said to have arrived at calculus independently in the 1670s but only finally published in 1684.

In the 14th century, Indian mathematician Madhava of Sangamagrama and the Kerala school of astronomy and mathematics stated components of calculus such as the Taylor series and infinite series approximations.[SUP][7][/SUP] Madhava developed some components of calculus such as differentiation, term-by-term integration, iterative methods for solutions of non-linear equations, and the theory that the area under a curve is its integral.
