Carol King Eckersley decided to look for the child she gave up for adoption in 1967 earlier this year following the death of her husband.
To her horror she found Ken Bisset had been on board Pan Am Flight 103 when it exploded over the Scottish town days before Christmas 1988.
The 65-year-old, from Oregon, in the US, tells her tragic story for the first time in a new BBC Scotland documentary marking the anniversary of the disaster to be broadcast tomorrow night.
