A question for Captn Billy

Mott the Hoople

Sweet Jane
Cap'n Billy. Here's a question for you. My Uncle recently passed away. He served in the Marine Corp during Nam and was honorably discharged as a Lance Corproal (actually they promoted him to Sargent and then busted him to a LCpl when he declined to reenlist.).

Anyways my Aunt (his widow) has decided to get a tattoo to honor him. Under the tattoo would be inked the words "Semper Fi" to honor both is faithfullness to her, his country and the corp.

My question is this. Would her having the words "Semper Fi" inked on her be considered disrespectful to The Corp since she did not serve in the Marines?

As a former marine, I would say no. Semper Fidelis is the marine corps motto, but we don't own those words. Also, honoring a fallen marine is in no way disrespectful.

Not even slightly. I mean, I personally wouldn't want to tattoo it on me, but I wouldn't find it disrespectful in anyway. And in any event it doesn't matter what other people think of your tattoos, which is a strange enough thing to say.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the feed back and thanks for the condolences. He and I were very close. He turned me on to my 3 biggest vices. Marlboros, Ganja and Porn. He was a hell of a guy.

I was not in the marines, but I have always used "Semper Fi" as a way to pay tribute to marines I know.

My condolences, Mott.

are you being serious?
Am I being serious about what? My Uncle did pass away last November, He did combat service in the Marine Corp in Nam, His widow, my Aunt, is getting a Tat as described and he did turn me on to those 3 vices.....though I have subsequently quit the first two. :-)

And thanks for the condolences guys. My Uncle was a great guy, he was a hell of a physician and he cared deeply about serving. It was a crying shame that he could never quit his addiction to Marlboros. They ended up killing him.
