I owned a pet gerbil when I was 15. There was this plastic ball and you put the gerbil in the plastic ball and then the gerbil could run around freely without escaping. My gerbil was yellowish orange on top and white underneath. Cute cuddly critters.

If squirrels could be tamed I woulda got one of those but truth is, gerbils are pretty much the only cuddly rodent a person would want to pet. All the other rodents are gross.
