Albert Einstein's German citizenship was revoked by the German government in 1933. This occurred after the Nazis came to power, due to Einstein's Jewish heritage and his vocal opposition to the regime. He had previously renounced his German citizenship in 1896 before becoming a Swiss citizen, but he was still considered a German citizen until the Nazis stripped him of it.

Albert Einstein became an American citizen on October 1, 1940.
