Incredibly sad story highlighting what is going on in Afghanistan. It beats me why the West can't just buy up the whole opium crop and use it to make pharmaceuticals.

Opium gangs in Afghanistan are using the sons and daughters of farmers as collateral for unpaid debts - with horrendous consequences for those who refuse.
A documentary has exposed the stomach-churning reality facing the war-torn nation's farmers, who borrow money from drug lords to set up cultivation of opium, used to make heroin, but are left destitute when NATO-backed Afghan forces destroy their crops.
The drug lords then take their children, including girls as young as 10, to places like Pakistan and Iran to sell them into the sex trade or use them as drug mules

It beats me why most pinheads refuse to admit that barbarism in the ME is not limited to just a small minority....its far more widespread than they want to believe.
We in the west are only aware of a small portion of it and the many forms it takes....it doesn't have to be just gov. sponsored....
 
Barbarism in the ME is more prevelant than in the West. Its caused by fundamentalist religous conservatism. Its not more prevelant here because of many factors but one big one is that opposition to that religous fundamentalism is strong and prevents the fundy's from taking over.

How about an example of barbarism, caused by religious conservatives, that goes on in the west.....
does that include some nutjob that murders an abortion worker ?....that happens once every decade or two.
Its that what you consider "barbarism" ?
Have any "fundies' stoned anyone lately....any FG mutilation lately...any amputations of limbs lately....how about some death sentences for rape victims.....????
Do the 'fundies' really worry you ?....
