President Joe Biden proudly called himself the most pro-labor president in American history, but working-class voters moved further than ever from their traditional home in the Democratic Party in this year’s election, leading some to rethink their approach to winning working-class voters.

While unions say their extensive organizing efforts helped Democrats largely hold the line with their members — Vice President Kamala Harris’ support among union households this year was slightly down from Biden’s in 2020, according to NBC News exit polling — the party’s erosion among working-class voters more generally is alarming.

“I don’t think the party has fully embraced, and hasn’t for decades, really, working-class people,” said Brent Booker, the general president of the Laborers’ International Union of North America. “We have to deconstruct and reconstruct the Democratic Party if they’re going to be the party of working people.”

Union membership has cratered over the past 50 years, so union leaders say there is only so much they can do in a world where 9 in 10 workers are not unionized and larger trends are cleaving workers from the Democratic Party.

“We can’t communicate with every nonunion laborer. We can only communicate with a portion of our members,” said Booker, who thinks Democrats could have performed better with a fierier populist message on the economy and a cooler one on cultural issues that make some of his members feel like Democrats are out-of-touch elitists. “A lot of our members own guns. A lot of our members hunt.”

Booker said that when he toured job sites this year, he heard about inflation, immigration and the demise of the Keystone Pipeline, which would have created jobs for his members but was killed for environmental concerns — all issues that played to the GOP’s favor.

Leftists are seeing their whole world crash down around them.

Indeed.

Trump broke the Democrats.
Yes how did. They are in a state of confusion. Nothing makes sense to them. They spent 9 years and billions upon billions of dollars to label trump destroy and him yet he still won.

MAGA threads are getting funnier

First off, define “working class.” And when done, tell us how many of this so called “working class” are actually in Unions

As I’ve said, this election wasn’t transitional, the turnout was low, close to ten million Democrats did not vote, and Trump only picked up a million and half extra votes than he did in 2020. All these big changes the MAGA are boasting here are bullshit, bottom line, Harris deliver the vote, given she had only 100 days to do so, isn’t hard to explain

Working class- the class that works.

Who cares how many are in unions, they voted for Trump.

So, the election is invalid because...too funny.

Many Democrats did not vote because the Harris/Walz ticket was a big joke.

The "working class" including union members , did not vote for the Democrats.

Ah, most people work there “earl,” well, maybe not where you come from, but every where else, and Democrats didn’t lose the Unions, rather, less Union voters voted, if is easy math “earl,” turn off the radio and leans to think for yourself

How did republicans EVER win an election if they supposedly ALWAYS only represented the wealthy top 1%?

Only 62% of eligible workers are actually working, Anchovies.

If the unions did not vote Democratic, most people would think that they did not want Democrats elected.

Try to absorb this, Anchovies, the Democrats have lost people who work for a living. Only the slugs who don’t work and live off those who do, still vote Democratic.

The labor force participation rate (LFPR) is the percentage of a country's population that is either working or actively looking for work. It's calculated by dividing the number of people in the labor force by the total working-age population.

Ah, I didn’t start a thread centered upon “working class” and “Unions,” your fellow red hat club comrade did, try to keep up
Those are terms you leftist types like to use. You were seeking definitions so I'm seeking definitions from you. Try to keep up.

Leftists are seeing their whole world crash down around them.

You are correct.

Never in a million years did I think that trans people were SO SCARY that the only choice would be to vote for a man who admires Hitler and has NO WORKABLE PLANS to save the economy.

Never in a million years did I think that PRONOUNS were so EGREGIOUS that people would rather elect a CONVICTED FELON and a man who attempted a rape in Bergdorfs.

Never in a million years did I think that the GOP would EVER be pro-Russia and let Russia invade other countries.

But here we are. Now we have to live with the decisions.

I hope it works out because I don't have enough time to rebuild my life and savings if it goes tits up. So good luck Trumpies. Hope you got it right. Hope it was all worth it.

Now stop bitching about Libs and start FIXING everything.

I'm going to help you dimwitted leftists out with some advice. You lost because you people are assholes. You didn't lose because of misogyny, sexism, racism or the stupidity of others blah, blah, blah you lost because you're all assholes.

I agree with this part…”Never in a million years did I think…”

Isn't it true that only unions that have continued to grow are the public sector unions - who produce little or nothing that benefits the American people - and in fact have damaged our society?

Get the unions out of the public sector, and America will heal.

To be fair, they also said that you are correct, so there's that.
Indeed.

Perhaps, one day, they will realize that they have lost the working class…those people who get up every day and go to work, pay their taxes, and fight our wars. The first responders and the police.

They lost for several reasons. Americans want secure borders and safe streets and low inflation.

The Democrats are, today, saying that they will fight deportations, even violent criminals.

I sincerely hope that they continue with their death wish.
