As much as I like Gore -- and I do: for a technocrat, he's quite good -- I'm inclined to Damo's distaste for the peace prize selection process on this one.

He's a politician, not a saint, people. He may be a politician more honest than most -- and I think he is -- but he's still a politician.

This is kind of like His Holiness recognizing Steven Seagal as a tulku, I'm afraid. Something of an embarrassment in hindsight.

Actually, he's not a politician anymore, is he?
Well, he's a bureaucrat. It's close. :)

Honestly, I think he's still living that life. Even Jimmie Carter, for whom I have far greater respect and who actually deserves said prize, in my view, is still largely a politician. Both of these men are turning that profession toward something quite positive, which is unusual, but they're still politicians.

You use the word politician as if it's exclusively negative, but politicians have done good things before. Politics is just the flawed extension of the character of a person. No better. No worse.

Gore pollutes at a rate near 50 times the average person.
So besides being disgustingly fat he's distustingly destroying the environment.
