Alan Lightman, the Physicist Who Craves Books on Philosophy

About how conflict (war) affects individuals. Not so much physically or economically, but rather mentally and psychologically. You'd really be surprised how little is written on this that's really worthwhile.

Around 50 years ago an Alan Lightman ( probably the same one) wrote a wonderful book called "Problem Book in Relativity and Gravitation". Around 500 problems with worked out solutions in the back. I have the book - it's not easy.

Surprising to see a problem-oriented person like him caring about a woolybrained subject like philosophy.
