Alaska GOP consider reprimanding Murkowski for 'No' vote on Kavanaugh

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - Alaska Republican party leaders plan to consider whether to reprimand U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski for opposing Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation.

The party has asked Murkowski to provide any information she might want its state central committee to consider.

Party Chairman Tuckerman Babcock says the committee could decide to issue a statement. Or he says it could withdraw support of Murkowski, encourage party officials to look for a replacement and ask that she not seek re-election as a Republican.

He says the party took that more extreme step previously with state legislators who caucused with Democrats.

He says all this follows outrage from Alaska Republicans.

Murkowski told reporters that if she worried about political repercussions she wouldn't be able to do the job Alaskans expect her to do.

Alaskan native Americans approached Murkowski. they have by far the highest rape statistics of any group of women. they were very concerned about the message voting for Kavanaugh would send. She responded to her constituents concerns. Besides, Brett was a terrible choice who nobody should have voted for. they could have done much better. Hard to have done worse.

Generally speaking I'm against the popular election of US Senators and this is a good example of why. She was elected by the people and it's not up to the state party to try to censure her at all.

Specifically about this, I know next to nothing about Alaskan politics but I do know piss-ant party apparatchiks like this Tuckerman Babcock...every state has them and they're all the same. They are almost always guys who have spent a lot of time in low or no profile positions within the party and the Party Chair is a reward for years of "loyal service" (translation: he did some dirty work for someone who really matters and kept his mouth shut about it). Anyone with the power to actually take down a US Senator wouldn't need or even want to make internal dirty-laundry public which tells me Babcock is someone's errand boy. If Murkowski chooses not to stand for re-election who might try to take her place? Tuckerman Babcock perhaps?

The other AK senator is Dan Sullivan who is married to an alaska native which makes his kids ak natives. He had no problem voting for Kav.

Murkowski ran as an Independent. She listened to her constituents. Kavanaugh isn’t a friend of Native Americans. This is a stupid move on the part of the GOP.

I saw a list of in the 20s. Here is one. https://www.politico.com/story/2018/07/03/trump-supreme-court-pick-list-nominee-decision-679941 they were selected by the federalist society to be far right. I did not want the repubs to steal Obama's choice. the middle of the roader, Garland, should be on the court. And Kavanaugh was a terrible selection. He is a conspiracy nut and a low level liar.

The last time she won her election- She ran as an independent!

Exactly which part of "Independent" does the Alaska Republican party leaders not understand? LOL!

Meaning what? Some people cede their power to the party more easily than others. Some are bigly suckups. Lots of reasons for him to back a rapist.
