Nobody's yet mentioned the fact that Turkey plans to invade Iraq and is being temporarily held at bay even while their forces mass on the border in response to a small incursion of Kurds into their territory - read: just the excuse they wanted.

What happens to the Middle East when Turkey invades? Are we obligated to fight a war with Turkey? Is it going to turn into another Korea situation where we're just fighting to keep Turkey out instead of for "ultimate victory" ala WWII?

What does this all mean?

"Turkey's foreign minister, Ali Babacan emphasised that his country is not planning to invade northern Iraq until all diplomatic means have been exhausted." ... Bush said the same thing, didn't he?

Democrats wanted this. is why they incited them about 100 year ago genocide.

this is turkeys response.

You're a brain-dead moron. Or a troll. Or both. You pick.

Does anyone think it is ironic that the United States is trying to prevent Turkey from invading Iraq when there is a terrorist organization actually being harbored in Iraq that is attacking Turkey on a regular basis and killing Turkish troops and citizens?

In any event, from what I have heard the Turks are holding off for now as Bush has gotten the Iraqi PM to announce that he will take actions against the PKK in northern Iraq. The only problem is that that Iraqi PM can't really do that since he has no troops to do it with and has little to no control over the affairs in Kurdistan.

Turkey isn't doing this in response to that, but unintended consequences are that we have less ability to prevent Turkey from doing what they want to do, they are less likely to listen to us if we do pass a bill calling it a genocide.

Armenian-American groups probably fought for the resolution as recognition of the fact that over a million Armenians were murdered by the Turks. The Congressman that sponsored the resolution is from California and I suspect is from a district with a large Armenian-American population.

I also like that you backtracked from "democrats wanted this" and that the Democrats "incited" Turkey's response to "it didn't help matters." Does your knee jerk much?

Hmm sounds like me before we invaded iraq.
Is Turkey not allowed to follow our rhetoric and fight terrorists in other countries ?
Or is that right reserved for the Good ol bastion of democracy and freedom, the US of A ?

A real Kurdistan includes parts of Turkey and they will NEVER let that happen. Also, the Kurds would have some pretty decent oil fields which would give them more cash to support the PKK which they already support quietly. The PKK with Oil reserves buying their weapons would be hard to deal with.

Never say never. Balkanization is good.

Just another open can of worms from the illegal and highly stupid American invasion of Iraq.

No matter which side the US now ends up backing, it will just open another can of worms.

BAC, were you opposed to the invasion of iraq from the beginning? OR are you a johnny cum lately to the 'out now' jamboree? I question your "anti" credentiality.
