An Ancient Solution to Our Current Crisis of Disconnection

So let’s put kids together and teach them how to talk, to hear and be heard, to resolve differences and forge consensus without flameouts, rupture, vituperation.

This solution is hardly new. Invented by educators and philosophers in ancient Greece, the discipline of rhetoric — originally defined as the study of persuasion and now more commonly known as the art of public speaking — remained the cornerstone of education until the 1700s.

Gee, maybe we should go back to 'free range' kids...

that's what we did before lib'ruls began teaching kids guilt for something that ended over a hundred years before they were born........

I am amazed at how angry the alt right becomes at the very suggestion we study rhetoric, and debate.

The western liberal education system started with the liberal arts. Liberal in this case means free, as opposed to servile(enslaved). Free people would study the liberal arts, and slaves would study the servile arts. The Greeks had many different political systems, but they were all political, and all based on debate. It was important that a Greek study debate. It was also important that there be a diverse student body, so the Greeks could get good debates.

This all meant that diversity and even quotas go back to the beginning of western education.

The West was not ahead of the rest in education, at first, but constant debate means that the West rose above the other areas in debate. In the Middle East, you had to believe in what the school was teaching to get ahead in the school. In the West, you could debate against the school, and change the school.

I don't wanna to hear any more of your classical, Western, patriarchal, racist, DEAD, WHITE, MALE BULLSHIT !!

You got that, BidenPresident ??!!

In any case, what would a Dummycrat like you know about education. Guess who pushed CRT (Racist, Black Supremacist Marxism) in the k-12 curriculum? Yes, that right, it was shit-for-brains Democrats who were responsible for that little stunt, and lets no forget racist, revisionist history that was - for a long while - forced down high school students throats; namely the 100% discredited, piles of trash called the "1619 Project." The Democrats thought it was a work of genius ! America's top, scholarly historians of the Founding era and the Civil War disagreed. Their verdict upon reviewing this book is that it was the literary equivalent of a "shit stain." I agree.
