How times have changed?

JFK is spinning in his grave at how democrats are acting...

And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country.

Who has attempted to abolish S.S., unemployment insurance or farm programs?

That's easily answered, there are more than a few on the right, the ones that quote Atlas Shrugged as their favourite book/film, that would if they could but they can't, at present anyway.

I saw something today in the Daily Express which said that Romney, when he was in charge of 2002 Lake City Winter Olympics cancelled all the staff's free soft drinks and biscuits. Not content with that he ordered five dollar pizzas and had them cut into eights and charged a dollar per slice!!

A few is correct. That's it. S.S. taxes were raised under Reagan in an effort to keep S.S. solvent and to my knowledge they have done nothing else other than Bush's recent attempt to allow the option of personal accounts but that is not anywhere near the same ballpark as abolishing the program.

You liked his comment Rana what evidence or example(s) do you have to offer?

Can you honestly, hand on heart, tell me that Santorum or Gingrich wouldn't attempt to make huge cutbacks on social programmes?

You are asking a completely different question now. The OP was about abolishing (among other things) Social Security. No one has attempted to abolish S.S. or even come close to that. As far as what Gingrich or Santorum would do regarding the many social programs our country has? When do Republicans cut anything? They could propose cuts to some programs I suppose but I suspect they continue to increase spending as they usually do.

Watch out, you are not being all fringe-group angry and will be generally ignored.

Cawacko is one of the nicest guys on this board, I have known him for many years and respect him immensely. Sorry to deflate any conspiracy theories you may have about my attitude to him.

So do we all. However pointing out to some fringe weirdo who thinks that anybody is suggesting getting rid of Social Security that nobody has suggested it will just be ignored generally...

I seem to recall that you have expressed admiration for Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged and Objectivism in the past.

The Medicare vouchers, the drug testing peope who receives benefits, all sneaky back door policy suggestions that would greatly reduce these programs. They can't come out and directly oppose them, they would be foolish to do so because these programs are popular with the people, but they can just keep chipping way at them.

Ron Paul has stated he wishes to abolish Social Security, but not overnight. Rick Perry wishes to abolish it and alled it a ponzi scheme, sentiments that have been voiced here. So, there are members of the Republican party who would like to abolish SS, as well as other programs, like unemployment benefits.
