SANTA FE — Legislation introduced in the state Senate proposes charging a $5 fee for each customer visiting a strip club in New Mexico.

The money would be used to help prosecute sex crimes in the state.

The measure is sponsored by Sen. John Grubesic, D-Santa Fe.

The fee would begin next Jan. 1 if approved by the Legislature and signed by Governor Richardson.

they're called "gentleman's clubs" in upscale parts of houston. That always cracked me up. I guess it was supposed to give them a veneer of respectability. I don't know if they had cover charges, I never went in one. But, I guess its a way to raise state revenue. :)

Well shit, this is so un-libertarian. Think about all the respectable rapists, who are now held at gunpoint by the government to give money to a cause that hurts their interest! Armed robbery!
