In an interview on Andrew Sullivan's Dishcast on November 5, Coulter said she knew what Trump's character was like before he was elected but supported him anyway because of his immigration policy and pledge to build the wall on the southern U.S. border.

"I was well familiar with what a narcissistic, ridiculous, tacky, vulgar, arriviste this guy was," she told Sullivan. "That I knew about. The one thing I underestimated, in fact, did not see at all is, I had no idea how abjectly stupid the man is."

In May 2020, she called Trump "the most disloyal actual retard that has ever set foot in the Oval Office" after the former president called for Alabama voters to "not trust Jeff Sessions" and instead back Sessions' GOP Senate seat challenger, Tommy Tuberville.

In August 2021, Coulter praised President Joe Biden for "keeping a promise Trump made, but then abandoned when he got to office" in withdrawing U.S. military troops from Afghanistan.

I am not convinced Trump is an abberation. He might just be a manifestation of deep grievance in the Republican party based on white Christian nationalism.

30 years ago, a white Christian nationalist - Pat Buchanan - came close to unseating a sitting Republican president. I have always stated that Buchanan was a harbinger of Trump.
