In 1881 on this date, October 26th, the participants of the Gunfight at the OK Corral...did their thing in Deadwood, Arizona Territory.

It is probably the most famous of the supposed "gun fights" of the American wild west.

The participants were Virgil, Morgan, and Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday on one side (the lawmen's side) and Tom and Frank McLaury, Billy Claiborne, Ike and Billy Clanton on the other (the outlaw side).

Tom and Frank McLaury and Billy Clanton were killed...Virgil and Morgan Earp were wounded and Doc Holiday was grazed.

Been the subject of movies, books, and stories ever since.

Makes for interesting reading. The event actually did not take place at the OK Corral, but further down the block. The "outlaw side" truly were outlaws (they called 'em cowboys at that time)...but the "lawmen's side" were pretty shady critters also.

The facts of the shoot-out are lost to history (actually were in dispute within weeks of the event)...but the many myths live on.
