So Obama made a campaign promise not to reassign the envoy? I didn't know that.

I knew he broke his "I will close GITMO" promise.

They aren't kept because no one holds them to them. The two-party mindfuck prevents that.

During the campaign, they can tell Americans any damn thing they can dream up.
 
It took some long enough to figure out the was not going to keep the promise.
I figured it out by April of his first term.

We should probably be more liberal with our impeachment policy, start booting out more people who fail to live up to what we want. Either that or get a collective memory that lasts more than 36 hours before dumping everything.
 
I'm sure Obama would have been able to keep the promise if he had been promised a secure location to move the detainees to and the ability to try them in a court of law. Unfortunately noone wanted that did they?
 
Yup, I wish I understood this one, but the most logical reason is that Bush was right. There are things we dont know that require it be kept open.
