Anti-Knowledge President Trump Closed Down The Smithsonian Institution. Deplorable!!!

Diversity Makes Greatness
How could anybody think that was a good idea?

Why would anybody think history and knowledge should be EXCLUDED from the public?

That is the epitome of STUPID.

What a TERRIBLE President.

Anti-education, anti-knowledge, pro hated, pro extreme wealth inequality.

We need to get RID OF HIM, learn a huge lesson and

NEVER ELECT ANYBODY LIKE HIM EVER AGAIN.

President Trump is a warning signal of just how low our country has sunk.

Just think. If we learn this lesson, we have already reached our low point in American history.

It can only get better from here!

The Smithsonian is a 501C3 organization. Trump did not shut it down. If it closed, it was because they do not have the funds independent of the tax-payer contribution to them every year.

'IF????"

There is no 'IF' in the fact that the Smithsonian closed down as a result of the shutdown.

The Smithsonian was established by an act of Congress, and normally receives funding from the United States Federal Government.

President Trump shut off that funding, which resulted in the closure of the Smithsonian.

The President did not shut off any funding. COngress failed to fund them and the Smithsonian is NOT part of the government. It is owned by a trust.

I don't get your point.

The Smithsonian, which was established by Congress, was closed due to the government shut down.

What do you want to bet Trump has never been there?

It is a place of learning.

The US Post Office established by COngress did not close. COngress creating something does not make it part of the government. The post office operates in the black so no need to close. The Smithsonian does not.

“Its annual budget is around $1.2 billion with two-thirds coming from annual federal appropriations.[9] Other funding comes from the Institution's endowment, private and corporate contributions, membership dues, and earned retail, concession, and licensing revenue.”

That is just flat out false. Completely backwards. Could hardly be further from the truth.

The bill that the House approved included funding for the Smithsonian. The Senate refused to vote on it because the President said he would not sign it. If the President had agreed to sign it, the Senate would have proceeded with it. All Congressional funding comes from the House, and the President shut off the funding that was voted on and approved.

No all funding comes from the House. You do not know if the Senate would have passed it or not. And, no matter how many times to declare it to be part of the government, the Smithsonian is not part of the government.

Hello 10DayUserName,

Yes. All funding comes from the House. Perhaps you misread my post. That's what I just said: "All Congressional funding comes from the House ..."

You do not know if the Senate would have passed it or not.

True, but they usually do pass budget extensions to keep the government open. So it is a fairly safe assumption. President Trump was the one who caused and credit for the shutdown.

And, no matter how many times to declare it to be part of the government, the Smithsonian is not part of the government.

I don't recall declaring that the Smithsonian was part of the government. You cannot post a quote of me saying that. And you are arguing a non-sequitur.

Knowledge is power. Closing the public off from the knowledge available at the Smithsonian, makes Americans less powerful.

Shutting down the government is NOT putting America First!
