Anyone following this?

That deputy attorney general guy (Comey, I think is the name) testified that he, ashcroft, and the head of the FBI threatened to resign, and refuesd to sign off on Bush's first attempt to establish a domestic spying program.

Man, Bush must have really wanted something way beyond the law, if his top law enforcement minons threatened to resign over it. Can you imagine how bad it must have been, if arch-neocon Ashcroft threatened to resign?

Yes I'm totally following it. What a story! I can't believe it, the details of it are really astounding. This program was in place for two years before this showdown happened, so what I'd like to see come out is, what the hell were they doing for two years that was so blatantly illegal and unconstitional that as you say, John Ashcroft of all people, talked about resigning over it. And maybe even did, in the end.

It's unbelievable!

Did they really try to bypass the acting Attorney General (Comey - cause he wouldn't sign off on their domestic spying program), and rush to Ashcroft's hospital bed to try to get a sedated and comatose man to sign off on their plan?

What the hell?

When I first heard of it, I remembered the culture at the NSA, seriously. It was against everything that we had going to ever listen to anything domestic. I was surprised they were able to keep it secret for as long as they did because of that. It still just grinds against all my gears.

It just gives me even more of the creeps everytime I look at Gonzolas. And it just really shows you exactly what happened. When even ashcroft, such a favorite of the religious right, wouldn't be bush's personal lackey and gave the law some weight, bush said, well, I didn't want an actual attorney general, I wanted a personal lawyer in there. And then he went and he appointed his personal lawyer and all-around lackey to be the Attorney general of the United States. We have no justice department right now. I believe that.

WE non R's will have entertainment for years from the Bush administration. We really owe them a round of applause for their 7 year dark comedy routine.

You know what I think Damo? This has always been about ideology, not about national security.

no one could blame them for taking some short cuts in the weeks right after 9/11. We were all freaked out. And they could have used the FISA process, perhaps even tweaked it, so it would be more responsive and faster if they thought it needed to be.

But, this was about tearing down the post-watergate government reforms - of which FISA was one. Cheney is an old watergate/nixon hand. And I think that, three decades later, it still chaps his hide, what congress did with reforms after nixon. He viewed it as encroachment on the executive. I'm I'm almost positive all this crap is related to Cheney trying to subvert the post-watergate reforms.

Bingo. You nailed it.

Gonzalez was installed as Bush's minion. His stooge. That domestic spying crap must have been REAL bad, if Ashcroft was dubious of it. Indeed, threatened to resign over it.

Was this taking place about the same time as Teddy (Bush spiritual advisor) was driven to a drug ridden gay lifestyle ?

Gosh darn it! Is that how everyone found out about my phone calls for drugs and sex? Was it all recorded by NSA, and leaked?

And I thought George was my friend! How could he do this to me!

:crybaby:

Regards,

Ted

Heck Ted you should have known he was not your real friend when he would not loan his boy toy rover to you ? Left you to pay for a whore and caused you to get caught! Sure he is your friend.

Wake up man!

Impeachment is pretty much a vote of no confidence. Just impeach on the grounds of incompetence. No trouble with evidence for that.
