GREAT...THANKS PRES.MORON AND THE DUNCE-O-CRATS, WHO COULDN'T OPERATE A LEMONADE STAND WITHOUT A GOVERNMENT HANDOUT...

April’s expected hiring boom goes bust as nonfarm payroll gain falls well short of estimates

POINTS
Hiring was a huge letdown in April, with nonfarm payrolls increasing by a much less than expected 266,000.

The unemployment rate rose to 6.1%, the Labor Department said.

Dow Jones estimates had been for 1 million new jobs and an unemployment rate of 5.8%.

Hiring was a huge letdown in April, with nonfarm payrolls increasing by a much less than expected 266,000 and the unemployment rate rose to 6.1% amid an escalating shortage of available workers.

Dow Jones estimates had been for 1 million new jobs and an unemployment rate of 5.8%.

Many economists had been expecting an even higher jobs number amid signs that the U.S. economy was roaring back to life.

There was more bad news: March’s originally estimated total of 916,000 was revised down to 770,000, though February saw an upward revision to 536,000 from 468,000.

~ Total employment in the household survey rose by 328,000, still leaving the level more than 7.5 million below where it was in February 2020. The labor force participation rate rose 0.2 point to 61.7%, its best level since August, while the employment-to-population level increased to 57.9%, its best since March 2020 but still below the 61.1% in February 2020.

An alternative measure of unemployment that includes discouraged workers and those holding part-time jobs for economic reasons fell to 10.4%, down 0.3 point from March for its lowest level since March 2020. That “real” unemployment rate had peaked at 22.9% in April 2020 as the headline jobless rate hit 14.8%.~

LESS THAN SIX MONTHS IN, AND THE DUNCE-O-CRATS ARE ALREADY "SUCCEEDING" IN DESTROYING THE GREATEST ECONOMY OF OUR LIFETIMES. BRAVO!!

Lots of jobs here. Hell, even restaurants are giving "sign on bonuses" to waitresses if they stay on for 90 days, and they still can't get enough help to stay open for their normal (gov't restricted) business hours.

"LACK OF JOBS" ISN'T THE ISSUE; PEOPLE CHOOSING NOT TO WORK WHILE THEY ARE BEING PAID NOT TO ,IS.

PLUS, ONCE THEY BLOW UP THE CAPITAL GAINS TAX....THE JOBS WILL DRY UP ,TOO...

Exactly. You easily got my indirect point. Small businesses and bars are closing because people don't need to go back to work because the gov't is paying them more to sit on their asses. The problem with this is, when the freebies run out, they're too lazy to work. When they are compelled to go back to work, they're unreliable and unproductive. Somehow, this will be Trump's fault.

People who have a 401 account will be taxed, then taxed again when they draw from it. Even harder if drawn from early. You'd be losing more than you'd gain. And Biden says he won't be taxing the middle class...

I wonder how many are taking welfare/unemployment and are also working on the black market economy or making money on a hobby or other off the radar gig.

Why would they ever sign up for a real job unless their money flow gets turned off?

As Tucker said tonight that would be irrational.

Anecdotal.

Yep...I caught it. We are on the road to massive downturns...much more quickly than I feared...

There are "Help Wanted" signs in front of just about every restaurant and business around here. Wendy's has a sign starting at $12 an hour. One place dropped the age to 16 because they can't find help.
Biden didn't "create" these jobs, these businesses are struggling to survive during/after the collective shutdowns imposed by our state's governor. Young people just don't want to work like we did.

WTF! I worked for $2.50 an hr. when I was in HS and made (saved) enough to buy a '71 MACH I and pay my own insurance. No help from my parents (other than encouragement).

With schools closed, a lot of people cannot go back to working a low-paying job, which is what restaurants and hospitality are. We need childcare.
