Argentines are choosing a new president in an election rocked by the emergence as front-runner of anti-establishment populist and self-styled "libertarian" Javier Milei.

Mr Milei is an outspoken right-wing economist whose "shock-jock" style and aggressive social media campaigning have appealed to younger voters.

His victory in the primary has put his two main rivals on the defensive.

Wrong. It's more akin to a pendulum. The pendulum has swung hard to the Left and now, with the Left having fucked everything up, it is swinging hard back to the Right. The Left has failed miserably, and people are sick of it. So, they're voting more and more Right and the Right will come in and fail miserably in different ways and people will get sick of it and start voting Left again forgetting the last time the Left had power. And so it goes...

In simple terms, the Left wants big government with authoritarian control of society to include all social, political, and economic aspects thereof. They want government control of most or all of the economy. The are in favor of setting up the political system to ensure they remain perpetually in power and exclude any opposition. In terms of the US Constitution, the Left would do away with most or all of the Bill of Rights.

Here's some I would cite of Leftist governments wanting authoritarian control of society:

Castro's Cuba
The Kim Jong family in N. Korea
Robert Mugabe Zimbabwe
Chavez / Maduro Venezuela
Ortega and the Sandinistas Nicaragua
PRI in Mexico
Xi and the Chinese Communist Party in China

All hard Left, all massively authoritarian control of society.

Except that the pendulum doesn't swing equally in both directions. Western civilization has gradually liberalized over time. Even the reactionary tantrums of so-called conservative movements don't undo all of the progress that each left-leaning era achieves. So we will survive this temporary phase and then get back on the right path to expanding rights for all, protecting the environment, striving for world peace and a cooperative world order, etc.

It’s impossible to take seriously any of the Trumpers on this forum. For the most part, they are delusional. They are liars. They are bullshitters.
