Arlington Man Loses Gun License Due To Blog About Tucson Shooting

ARLINGTON (CBS) – A blog threatening members of Congress in the wake of the Tucson, Arizona shooting has prompted Arlington police to temporarily suspend the firearms license of an Arlington man.

It was the headline “1 down and 534 to go” that caught the attention. “One” refers to Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, who was shot in the head in the rampage, while 534 refers to the other members of the U.S. House and Senate.

Police are investigating the “suitability” of 39-year-old Travis Corcoran to have a firearms license

We certainly take this as a credible threat, and credible until we prove otherwise,” said Arlington police Captain Robert Bongiorno.

In his blog Corcoran writes, “It is absolutely, absolutely unacceptable to shoot indiscriminately. Target only politicians and their staff and leave regular citizens alone.”

If it is a threat to a public official, it is a felony. That does mean he loses his licence.
Now, whether its an actual threat or just mouthing off remains to be seen.

Speaking of that, I wonder whatever happened to KingRaw? He was investigated for online threats to the president. (Damo, weren't some of those threats written here?)

i'm not sure it was a threat, rather uncalled for incitement to violence or at least rantings of someone who has all the wrong answers

btw...evince is on USMB claiming this in fact stopped a shooting

if they had a warrant or can argue exigent circumstances, they did not violate the consitution

no warrant was mentioned, only a visit, so I can assume that they were merely invited in. There are no exigent circumstances that constitute the confiscation of private property if there are no charges filed against an American.

it is interesting, because if they believed he would imminently shoot someone, why has he not been charged and arrested? so, unless there was a warrant, you are correct...

Saying 1 down 534 to go is NOT a threat. It was tasteless and stupid but in no way indicated his willingness or intent to shoot anyone. This was a knee-jerk reaction and the result waa a violation of his rights

He's an idiot and they were well within the proper procedure to do what they did.
You can't cure stupid.

if they didn't have a valid warrant, it would be a violation of his rights...

also, does due process require a hearing or something before you lose your gun license
