‘Atlas Shrugged Part 2′ Falters At The North American Box Office

Director John Putch’s Atlas Shrugged: Part 2 was met with disinterest from the North American movie-going public, Alt Film Guide reports. The film, which stars Samantha Mathis, is the second part of the epic cinematic adaptation of author Ayn Rand’s 1975 novel. On Friday, the movie only managed to make around $692,000 from over 1,000 locations. When you break down those numbers to reveal the project’s per-location totals, the second installment only managed to earn around $684 at each theaters.

Holy shit did this thing tank!!

So, what would Ayn Rand say about an inferior product that no one wants to buy...?

I've been waiting until it is all out. I guess I'll have to go see it now to bump up the number by $10 or so... lol

Yes, overall it was interesting. It was my least favorite of her fiction. Galt speech was way too long and it almost stopped me from finishing.

True that. Self-publishing the book was a mistake, IMO. Some judicious editing would have helped it greatly. However, now when I read it I skip the Galt speech, but not the Money speech. That one rules.

I hate the re-casting. The lead acting for Dagny and Rierdon was way more appealing in the first, plus Dagny was cuter. The new Riordon has this annoying scratchy voice, and while the actor makes the character appear more down to Earth, I still miss the suave sophistication of his predecessor.
