Aware of 'no options,' woman dies fighting for medical coverage

But Dixie said this doesn't happen in the US.

Four bouts with debilitating cancer and she couldn't get disability or qualify for Medicaid ?......with Obama cronies at the reins of every government agency in government ?....

Whats with this guys cronies ?....no compassion for those with legitimate disability.

they said they didn't know they could get insurance....this is a sad story, but to put the blame on the country is misguided.

Well I didn't, so shoot me! No one seems to answer the question as to why she was so poorly advised.
So now it's the fault of a lack of information?

Feels like a mockery of a witchhunt.

"SOMEBODY MUST BE TO BLAME". Very strange. sad yes, but still strange reaction.

i would question aetna further as to why her premiums jumped and why they did not inform her about the preexisting conditions pool

also, her health care advocate should have known about the preexisting conditions pool

obviously, more advertising about the aca needs to be done

Indeed it is the country's fault.

We allow insurance companies to dictate the terms of our medical care, even to the point of preventing care.

For the privilege of them regulating the quality and amount of or lack of healthcare, we reward them with 31% of our healthcare dollars, while medicare performs the same service at a cost of only 6%.

unfortunately, medicare is subsidized by those not on medicare

You don't have to have healthcare, it's not very smart since all your expenses would come out of pocket. But you could do it. The insurance company goes out of business if they pay more than they make. They're not the mystic healing company of fluffy bunnies and rainbows, they're trying to make a profit.

Yes, they are making a profit. You do realize that they are taking a risk when they sell insurance right? They have no magic right to make a profit on every transaction.

Which would be nice if they actually paid the full cost of the care rather than relying on the subsidy of the "free market" who has to pay more to overcome the loss from Medicare underpayments.

Anyway, the woman had an HC advocate who clearly sucked at their job. All of Medicaid and other options were available, she simply wasn't told about them by this "advocate"...

If I were the family I'd be going after that "advocate" who utterly failed at the job.

Here's a fact of life, pinheads... people are sometimes going to die, through no fault of society or government, and certainly no fault of an insurance or health care provider. It's regrettable, it's sad, I hate it for their family and friends, but there isn't anything we can do to prevent this from happening. This will happen regardless of what kind of system we have. People die from stage 4 cancer. That is a fact of life, and the ACA doesn't prevent that from occurring. Here, we have someone dying and a liberal parading their death around as if we are still debating ACA, which passed into law two years ago. You got everything you wanted passed, and this woman still died, and you want to claim it is somehow the fault of Republicans. If someone hasn't informed you, they need to... people still get sick and die in Utopia!

which is an excellent argument against for profit healthcare, besides, one of the purposes of insurance is to spread the risk/cost among many people

What bullshit ..... all you can do is rant against the insurance co......why wasn't she getting disability? Its obvious she couldn't work.....why wasn't she qualified for Medicaid......too much money ?
If she and her family had too much money for Medicaid, why didn't she pay for the insurance....?.....
