"TOKYO, Japan (AP) -- A Japanese hospital opened the country's only anonymous drop box for unwanted infants Thursday despite government admonitions against abandoning babies.

The baby drop-off, called "Crane's Cradle," was opened by the Catholic-run Jikei Hospital in the southern city of Kumamoto as a way to discourage abortions and the abandonment of infants in unsafe public places. The hospital described it as a parent's last resort."

The only thing I wonder about is that if the girl wants to remain anonymous, I'm not sure how willing she would be to drop the kid off herself.

They do it here at the Fire Departments and Hospitals. We wouldn't be allowed to question them, nor seek them out if somebody decided to drop a child at our fire department.

I thought so. I think I've read somewhere that there is a grace period of a few days at a hospital where they can't ask anything.

Not just hospitals, but as Damo said, the fire dept, and police dept....

This information needs to get out more so that we can radicate the leaving newborns in dumpster syndrone... I think it is a week's leaway, but uncertain.

DAMN IT....

By the title of the thread I thought the WOC was in full swing... babies being dropped in boxes... etc... talk about a let down.

;)

How about a Schroedinger's Baby experiment?

(Hey Damo! HTML Entities don't work in your lousy forums software! :p)
I block them because spammers use them to redirect messageboards to porn sites and such. It has, in fact, been very successful from diverting this site on several occasions...

You can use BB code though and almost always can do what you wanted with HTML, but cannot auto-direct a site that way.

??? Stick children in a room with tigers????
Naw. Stick a baby in a sealed box with a bottle of cyanide and a trigger based on the decay of a single atom of a radioactive isotope. When the atom goes, the bottle is smashed and the baby buys it.

The great thing is that such decay is, so far as we know, truly random. You absolutely cannot predict the exact moment when any particular nucleus is going to go.

It's possible to demonstrate mathematically that the baby is BOTH alive and dead at the same time. Until you open the box to find out, that is. ;)

Personally...

I do believe all the dropped babies should be gift wrapped and shipped overnight to non other than Hillary Clinton...she is after all the 'Queen of the Village' Maybe her village would do a better job raising all these unwanted Liberal babies...just a thought...and it would give her a day job so she would not have to annoy all the rest of the serious candidates for President!;)

I am guessing that if it is a sealed box, that the baby would be dead if the decay lasted more than a minute.

"liberal babies"? I have yet to meet a new born with a political affiliation or lean.

Cannot disagree...

However the jist of the comment was directed at liberal 'mothers'...(used loosley) who support abortion...so I thought Hillary's Village could take up the slack!

"TOKYO — An Japanese drop box for unwanted babies triggered a wave of nationwide soul searching Wednesday, a day after it was discovered a preschooler — and not an infant — had been dumped there by his father on its first day of operation."

After watching Nanny 911, I wouldn't be surprised if we find that preteens are going to be dropped off there soon.

Or if you need a free sitter for a vacation.

That's so sad that I almost couldn't laugh. :o Poor kid. Rotten father, though: he may even be better off.

Note to AssWig (and Damo): a pre-schooler is not an infant. I trust we'll have no silly arguments on that subject?
