The USA has long been touted as a Balkaniization success story.

Can you always say that?

Truth is a lot of Americans have long not gotten along too well.

It's getting worse again.

But, it was long an issue.

you've got the meaning rersed. through the 80s and 90s, neocons and neolibs used balkanization to mean countries breaking up into smaller states, and it was a bad thing. it was people like milosevic had to be "dealt with".

states should be as inclusive as possible, but not more.

The term also is used to refer to ethnic conflict within multiethnic states.

It was coined at the end of World War I to describe the ethnic and political fragmentation that followed the breakup of the Ottoman Empire, particularly in the Balkans. (The term Balkanization is today invoked to explain the disintegration of some multiethnic states and their devolution into dictatorship, ethnic cleansing, and civil war.)

Balkanization should just mean too many ethnic groups in one spot.

It truly causes a lot of resentment.

Milosevic wanted to hold Yugoslavia together.

It's the USA who wanted to separate them.

Which is kind of odd, considering how the USA tends to support in recent times integration & not separation.

To tell you the truth, Milosevic was kind of like Lincoln.

It was sort of their version of the American civil war, just a lot more vicious & complex.

Modern Canada and USA are both ethnically diverse, and by the standards of world history, are arguably the most tolerant and successful examples of nation-states in human history.

The USA is tolerant? From slave owner George Washington to Donald Trump?

Canada might be a special example, probably half of Canada's background are of draft dodging Americans since day 1.

They are naturally submissive.

just shows that imperial dogma shifts with the evershifting sandy sands.

Bosniaks actually started the Genocides of Bosnian war, NOT Serbs.

You'll almost never hear about the Sijekovac killings but always about Srebrenica massacre.

Let me ask you this:

Why are you responding to what you wish I wrote, rather than what I actually wrote?

I specifically said "modern" Canada and USA.

I specifically said "by the standards of world history", not by the standards of the ideal and perfect.

The USA is really divided, the backbone of the Republicans are Celto-Germanic Protestants, who probably make up 50% of the USA.

The backbone of Democrats are far more diverse being Blacks, Latinos,,Jews, Muslims, Asians etc.

White Catholics like myself tend to sway back & forth, not really understanding either side.
