Filmmakers call out LA's 'useless' management over wildfires that 'destroyed people's lives'

Filmmaker Justine Bateman acknowledged the "incredibly unusual" windy weather that swept through the LA area, causing further inferno and added difficulty for firefighters working to extinguish the flames.

"If you are going to run a city, you have to take care of the basics, and that's to make sure that your fire department's well-funded," the filmmaker said, stressing the importance of having "rehearsed" planning in place to hopefully minimize the consequences of natural disasters.

"If you know what's coming, you make sure that you are prepared for what might occur. And they weren't," she said.

For California, that includes wildfires, earthquakes, heavy rain and mudslides.

California's elected officials are ‘’incapable'' of planning for these major events

They are "useless" if they are not doing everything in their power to tackle disasters before they occur.

"If you can't cover the basics, get out of our city. You are useless to us. You are a liability and you have destroyed people's lives because you didn't do your job," she said. "You didn't do what you were hired for. You didn't do what we pay you for", she added. They should "resign out of shame and responsibility for the people whose lives you've destroyed right now."

Bass' 2021 tweet comes back to haunt her as LA residents demand accountability

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is facing major backlash for being in Ghana while her city battled devastating wildfires.

Now, a 2021 tweet in which she criticized Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, for going to Cancun, Mexico, with his family as his state dealt with a severe winter storm.

Social media users were quick to accuse the mayor of being hypocritical. While Bass left for Ghana before the wildfires started, she still faced condemnations over the trip and fierce criticism of her leadership.

Upon her return from Ghana, Bass was confronted by a reporter about her trip, but she remained silent. Bass also refused to say whether she had any "regret" about slashing the city’s Fire Department’s budget last year.

Bass faces heat for fire budget, Ghana trip as city burns

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is facing political heat from across the city and beyond as catastrophic fires continue to burn.

The fires have killed at least 10 people and burned nearly 25,000 acres in the Los Angeles region as of Friday, though not all the blazes are under Bass' jurisdiction. Among the ones that are include the biggest: the Palisades Fire, which broke out Tuesday and rapidly consumed thousands of homes as residents fled for their lives. It had burned more than 20,000 acres as of Friday afternoon and has wreaked havoc since it ignited.

Bass is facing criticism over two issues in particular: a funding cut to the Los Angeles Fire Department in the fire-prone region and the timing of a diplomatic trip to Ghana as dangerous fire conditions loomed.

"She knew that we had a major wind event coming up that had the potential for a wildfire," said Tom Doran, who fled the Palisades Fire that destroyed his home. "She's off in another country, and at the taxpayer's expense, when she should've been here. She is the chief executive of Los Angeles."

It took mere hours for the ineptitude of Karen Bass to render the Pacific Palisades a scorched wasteland.

To rebuild will be a gargantuan task.

The first necessary step must be to recall this worthless political hack.

Karen Bass called for $49M in additional cuts to the fire department just one week before the LA fires which would have shut down 16 fire stations.

California deserves better leaders.

Karen Bass literally read the initials "URL" off her script during a press conference instead of the emergency website address for the victims of the LA fires.

With Bungling Biden about to retire, I think we have a new leader in the most incompetent politician in America sweepstakes.

Insurance companies will attempt to blame the elected authorities for reduced/low/no water pressure in the hydrant system.

The outcome will depend upon an understanding of the physics of divided water pipes.
Anybody got a simple equation ?

This will be the existential question for both local government and insurance companies.

Karen Bass was involved with the Venceremos Brigade in the 1970s, a group described by some sources as having Marxist-Leninist leanings and supportive of the Cuban Revolution. During this period, she reportedly made multiple trips to Cuba, which was seen as an alignment with leftist ideologies. She has been linked to the Line of March, a Maoist organization in the 1980s.

Bass has openly praised individuals with communist affiliations, notably Oneil Marion Cannon, a member of the Communist Party USA, in her congressional eulogy, without mentioning his communist ties.

Bass made several notable statements regarding Fidel Castro. In 2016, following Castro's death, Bass described him as the "Comandante en Jefe," which translates to "Commander in Chief" in English, and stated that his passing was "a great loss to the people of Cuba."

Later, in 2020, amid scrutiny during her vetting process as a potential vice presidential pick for Joe Biden, Bass walked back her comments. She acknowledged that her earlier characterization of Castro was inappropriate.

Karen Bass left L.A. for Africa as wind, fire warnings increased.

The current wind conditions in Los Angeles were predicted in advance.

Forecasts from multiple sources indicated that strong Santa Ana winds were expected to impact the region.

The National Weather Service and other meteorological services had issued warnings and advisories several days before the event, highlighting the potential for high wind speeds and associated high fire risk due to dry conditions.

Specifically, forecasts mentioned wind gusts potentially reaching up to 100 mph and the issuance of "Particularly Dangerous Situation" red flag warnings for parts of Los Angeles and surrounding counties.

These forecasts were part of a broader warning system aimed at preparing residents and emergency services for the significant wind event.
