Bhopal 25 years later

Mott the Hoople

Sweet Jane
Twenty five years ago today a methyl isocyanate storage reactor at the Union Carbide Plant (now owned by Dow Chemical) in Bhopal, India blew up. 3,000 people died during the incident. 15,000 more died subsequently. Nearly half a million people had their health directly affected by what turned out to be the biggest industrial disaster in history. To this day Dow Chemical refuses to acknowledge responsibilty for the disaster.

Hey they each got $700! What can be wrong with that?

And they never will beyond the paltry sums they doled out...just like the Exxon/Valdez and the native population they screwed over here in America.

And people wonder why corporations get a bad name.

was the cause ever determined? and was DOW at fault?

Of course not. It was a nasty little brown man who sabotaged his own community because he was jealous of the American way of life. They all are you know. All the bangers and the bombers, the shooters and the shisters, all jealous of American freedom and the right to kill people and get away with it.

so you don't have an honest answer....got it

Just gave you what you wanted, young man. Get it?
There is little point in giving you anything else. By your past comments you are prepared to accept nothing less than America is the world's saviour riding on a steed of shining white .... sorry that should read 'whining shite'.

Who would you believe? DOW, Union Carbide? Eveready, The regional government of Madhya Pradesh, The government of India or the little brown men who were harmed.
Oh sorry, I omitted Fox News.
I really dont understand the obsession you right wing loonies have with calling anyone with a brain a coward. Is it projection? Is it similar to calling people queer? Or is it simply punching air and a childish demonstration of steam release?
It's all very John Wayne wannabee from a bunch of tiresome little tits as far as I can see.

The CEO of Union Carbide at the time is under indictment and a wanted man in India. I presume the fault has been determined. The cause was carelessness, improper storage and inadequate safety precautions. With typical US corporate arrogance, they failed to warn the government or the plant's neighbors of possible danger in the event of an accident. The accident occurred and the people were unaware of any danger when the killer cloud came their way. Tens of thousands died as a result.
For what it's worth anybody that wants to go out and use Sevin(the product at Bhopal) today is welcome to it and the problems it may bring to their family, neighbors, and pets.

Absolutely. The disaster was a result of a number of contributing factors for which Union Carbide (now Dow) was responsible. A combinations of design flaws, inadequate personnel training, improper storage and handling of MIC, poor maintenance, improper use of corrosive materials, improper location for a hazardous materials operation, inadequate and improper safety controls, etc, etc.

The cause of the accident was Union Carbide improperly storing MIC (methyl isocyanate) in a large, inadequately designed and improperly maintained tank. Water leaked into the tank causing an exothermic reaction inside the tank. The resulting increase in temperature and pressure caused the tank to rupture allowing a large volume of cyanide gas to escape.

The design flaw was particularly egregious in that before Bhobal the same flaw was responsible for an MIC leak in a remotely located UC plant in West Virginia. The incident and the design flaw were not communicated to other UC operations involving MIC. Probably the most horrifying reality of the disaster was that it was completely preventable.

Just as I thought....you've got nothing of worth to add to the discussion. And like the intellectually bankrupt neocon parrot you are, you cower a the very sight of information that debunks your bullshit. Thanks for validating why I put your sorry ass on IA from time to time. Laugh clown, laugh. :cof1:
