President Biden’s administration is tightening federal oversight of career training programs that saddle students with unaffordable education debt, an effort that could hamstring some for-profit colleges.

On Wednesday, the Education Department finalized regulations that would cut off federal student aid to vocational programs whose graduates consistently have high loan payments relative to their income.

It took years for the Obama administration to implement its version of the rules, as for-profit colleges petitioned the courts to prevent what they regarded as an attack on their industry. Then the Trump administration rescinded the rules, only to have the Biden administration write what many consider to be tougher regulations.

Saddling 24-year-olds with an educational mortgage is so American. Squeeze every dime from education. It harms the country. An educated population is a boon to the future of a country. We cannot resist making big bucks. Many countries encourage educating the people. We want them to pay huge for an education that is free or cheap in advanced countries.

But only vocational programs... What about four-year degree programs that do the exact same thing?
