20 years of actively recognized war is basically America's longest war. To get the Vietnam War longer, you have to include the early 1950's when America really did not seem like it was at war in Vietnam, and the period after the Vietnamization of the war in 1973. Even then, it is hard to make it a longer war.
The Korean War technically never ended, but there has been a truce for nearly 70 years, so not an active war.
Which war was longer? Remember, you claim that 20 years of active warfare is not even close to the longest war we have ever fought. So can you name an American war with 40 years of active warfare?
I guess, some of the wars with Native Americans were on again off again for more than 20 years, but there were always long off periods.
