Big Red!

Mott the Hoople

Sweet Jane
I don't know if any of you are Horse racing fan but an American philly has a chance to win the Saturday's Breeder's cup for the second year in a row. If she does she'll retire with 20 consecutive wins and an undefeated record. Zenyatta is a truely amazing horse and you may want to watch next saturday to see something truly special.

Speaking of something special. Most of you on here are to young to Remember Secretariat. He's the most incredible horse I ever saw race. Big Red was not undefeated but it was how he won in big races that made him special. To this day he holds the track record for the Kentucky Derby. There are several things amazing about this performance. #1. He set the track record for 1 1/4 mile Kentucky Derby that still stands to this day. #2. The second fastest time for the Kentucky derby that stands to this day was set by Sham who came in 2nd. #3. Big Red ran each consecutive 1/4 mile of the race faster then the one before, that's just unheard of and is a feat that's never been duplicated in the Kentucky Derby. If you want to see a reat treat watch this! See how Big Red had 4 gears. First, Second, Third and GOODBYE!

His next race was the Preakness. Note how Big Red starts out in the rear. The fact that only 6 other horses ran against him in a Triple Crown race shows how much he was feared. The field tried sand bagging it with a slow pace and Big Red just said "See ya later!". Big Red also set the record for the Preakness which has been tied by three other horses Tank's Prospect (1985) and Louis Quatorsre (1997) and Curlin (2007).

Then came the Belmont stakes and one of the most incredible performances ever. Watch Big Red put it into supersonic gear going around the third turn and watch the other horses kiss his ass good bye. Not only did Secretariat crush the track record by 2.6 seconds, a record that stands to this day, but he annihalated the field by 33 lengths. Another amazing fact is that the horse that came in second would have set the track record had he not ran against Big Red....and he lost by 33 lengths!!! This is one of those "I'm not worthy!" moments. So that's the 3 biggest horse races in the country and He set 3 track records none of which has been broken to this day, 37 years later.
Again, watch Big Red go into overdrive coming around the third turn, it's just amazing! Note towards the end how the Jockey, Ron Turncotte, does a big no-no for a jockey...he looks behind him to see the gap...can you really blame him?
