The faux outrage is embarrassing. I'm less concerned with Bill Maher's jokes than I am with the real racism that Trump's campaign and administration has provided a safe space for.

Go ahead and demand that Bill Maher be fired. Go ahead and try to sanction Bill Maher for being politically incorrect. Just remember that that smell that follows you is your own burning hypocrisy.

It doesn't bother me in the least. I wasn't programmed to be outraged when white people say that dreadful word.

But I have seen a few posting recently about how outrageous and terrible it is. I know they will be consistent here, because I know their character.

LOL will they turn on Bill? Will he lose his contract at HBO? I'd bet by monday HBO announces his show is canceled. In these times of scary boycotts, HBO is shitting their pants right about now. Every second of lost damage control will cost them money. This isn't about sponsors either. I'd bet all the streaming services that carry HBO content will have to make a decision after they get a taste of the boycott.

Of course, I'm assuming the social justice warriors will find Bill a target. He's useful to their cause. They might choose to ignore the story and call it fake news. They might reason that it's a common enough phrase that they'll allow Bill to appropriate it this one time and only because he's the butt of the joke here, not the origins of the phrase. They might simply forgive him because, hey, he's funny.

Maher is an idiot. The new white far left liberal "cool". Thinks minorities in this country are comfortable enough with far left liberal point of view on things that he can talk like that. Would love to see him get on a corner and say the same thing in Watts or Green Meadows.

Trump emboldened Bill Maher to reveal his true racist self. Until Trump got elected, Bill was able to keep it bottled up and away from the rest of society, and we were all better off for it. Now, thanks to Trump, Bill feels he is able to express his views with less fear of reprisal from our government.

I don't like that he used the word. Don't like ANYONE using it, really. But he was referring to himself and not directing the word at anyone. Not a funny joke, but definitely a joke. The outrage.. such as it is seems a bit ridiculous to me.



Now contrast that to the reaction of a student body president last week when he made a gang sign. Remember, it was said he was mocking not the gangs themselves, but the victims.

The word was so offensive that it was on prime time TV comedy in the 70s, in the pre-snowflake generation.
