A group of former and current players sent Goodell and executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent a 10-page memo in August asking the league to participate in a wide-ranging list of social activism initiatives, including: participating in PSAs, meet with -- and potentially finance -- certain organizations and dedicate November as activism awareness month, among other actions,according to Yahoo Sports.

With all the affirmative action programs in america, blacks have no one to blame but themselves for being poor.. Fact is most blacks can't even read and that's why they don't get good jobs outside of sports.

Look at the attendance for the two home games in LA last weekend. USC outdrew them combined

I predicted this last year but people scoffed.

It will go down as a humongous mistake putting two teams in Los Angeles. Despite the huge population, they fail to realize the economic realities. The majority of the population in LA can not afford a ticket to an NFL game and eat etc.

But they have had this weird fascination with having a team there in spite of previous failures.

I believe Vegas will be a similar experience for the Raiders.

The NFL is on an unstoppable downward slide.

Here are the issues that have killed the NFL in no particular order

1) forcing payment for huge stadiums on taxpayers
2) obsession with breast cancer awareness
3) the obsession with CTE and the resulting bogus calls
4) the politicization of the game. Nobody is saying people like Kaepernick can’t be an activist. Jim Brown was a huge activist. But he kept it off the field

Number three will the final nail as more and more parents keep their sons out of football

I believe that there has been a coordinated leftist attack against the NFL because it was one of the last bastions of conservatism in the country

Agreed although the Rams are 2-0 I believe this year. No clue what they are thinking with the chargers. People in SD hate them and they are the second team now in LA. Now sure how long they are going to survive there

Football should be kept out of schools. In fact all sports should be but esp football. What a dangerous sport.

I agree w/ point 1) & 3) in that parents are rightly concerned about permanent injury to their kids

also about la..

Thing is the money, they may not sell out on tix but they have lots of other deals/revenue streams in that YUGE market, because it's about the money....

Thing is TV ratings are down too. I am not saying it will die overnight. But there are troubling signs.

Don’t forget there was a time boxing was one of the biggest sports around. Baseball hurt itself with the strikes.

I should have added two thing that is hurting them and that is going Hollywood. Red carpet bullshit before the Super Bowl and the Draft makes it unwatchable.

The last is that they have become over saturated with too many games. Time was Monday Night Football was the place to be and was the highlight of the week with marquee games. Now they have to compete with Sunday and Thursday night. It is just too much.

Used to be I watched MNF at the expense of everything else. Now unless my favorite team is playing, I just don’t care.
 
I think part of it has to do with the way people consume media these days. A lot of people are becoming cord cutters and local sports is the last bastion of things that are still hard to find an online replacement for (though youtube recently has allowed for recent sports and I am sure there are a few other places)

Maybe redzone is affecting it a little bit? I fucking love redzone.

Oversaturation as ILA said above is probably partially true.

I don't think politics is killing it though.

I think we as a society have become so A.D.D and mutli-tasking focused that sitting down for 3-3.5 hours is fucking hard to do. Same problem with baseball. Game times have ballooned. Commercials make up almost an hour of the actual football experience.
