Well, they could have been good parents, but out of touch. Doing the best they can but not recognizing warning signs. I almost lost a brother to heroine 12 years ago, (he's been clean and sober for 12 years today), and my parents are 2 of the greatest people in the world. Good parents, very loving, nurturing, but they couldn't recognize some of the warning signs back then.
