Brie Larson Confirmed to Play Captain Marvel

No, that's just the title. They lost the right to use his name in the title, so DC went with Shazam. A possible working title several years back was Billy Batson and the Legend of Shazam.

According to wikipedia:

Due to trademark conflicts over another character named "Captain Marvel" owned by Marvel Comics since 1967, DC chose to publish the character's adventures under the comic book Shazam! for many years, leading many to assume that this was the character's name. DC later renamed the character "Shazam" when relaunching its comic book properties in 2011.

Right should be along soon to tell us that anyone can edit Wiki.

Just like anyone can PhotoShop a Confederate flag into an old photo of Hillary. :rofl2:

Hmmm. I wonder when the good Captain underwent sex reassignment?

You're confusing the DC Comics "Captain Marvel"...aka SHAZAM!...with Marvel Comics Captain Marvel. Marvel Comics Captain Marvel is Carol Danvers. Formerly "Ms. Marvel" of the X-men and the only X-men member to not be a mutant (though she has both psychic and paranormal powers). In Marvels universe she and the Scarlet Witch protect the earth from Ultron the destoryer.

In DC Comics Captain Marvel is the alter ego of Billy Batson, a teenage homeless boy who meets a wizard who grants him the powers of the ancient Greek gods if he says the word "SHAZAM!" where a bolt of lightning transforms him into the red suited, white caped Captain Marvel.

You're thinking of the DC comic character. The link is for Marvel Comics "Captain Marvel".

DC created this mess by suing Fawcett Comics over Captain Marvel in the early 50s, claiming copyright infringement over Superman. Marvel Comics came along, and then DC awkwardly purchased Captain Marvel, but not before Marvel Comics copyrighted the name.
