Deputy Secretary of State Randall L. Tobias submitted his resignation Friday, one day after confirming to ABC News that he had been a customer of a Washington, D.C. escort service whose owner has been charged by federal prosecutors with running a prostitution operation. Tobias, 65, Director of U.S. Foreign Assistance and administrator of the US Agency for International Development (USAID), had previously served as the Ambassador for the President’s Emergency Fund for AIDS Relief.

A State Department press release late Friday afternoon said only he was leaving for “personal reasons.” On Thursday, Tobias told ABC News he had several times called the “Pamela Martin and Associates” escort service “to have gals come over to the condo to give me a massage.” Tobias, who is married, said there had been “no sex,” and that recently he had been using another service “with Central Americans” to provide massages.

UPDATE: Tobias was a strong proponent of the Bush administration’s abstinence-only policies. Before touring African countries for an AIDS program 2004, he said, “The message to young people in the schools is not either ‘Be abstinent or here are condoms, take your pick.’ It is a message of ‘Be abstinent.’ Delaying sexual activity is a means of eliminating the risk of infection.”

Rightwing hypocrites need to get more creative with their lies. This is essentially a repeat of the Ted Haggard defense.
 
Is this the escort service that is just opening the can of worms. Sort of like the Heidi Fleiss of DC ?

The neos/bushies look more and more like a culture of corruption all the time. I hope they actually prosecute him for soliciting.

would be nice to have an official record and perhaps lose his voting rights.

and I would not be surprised if there were other politicians involved, from both sides of the aisle.....but I believe this was the "republican's Service" used, some more investigating would need to be done to find the "democrat's Service".....

The hilarious thing about this guy, is that he was telling teenagers to be abstinent, in part, to avoid the risk of sexually transmitted diseases....but meanwhile, he's participating in high risk sexual activities like banging prostitutes.

But he only meant sex before you are married Cypress. Once you get married, you can have sex with as many prostitutes as you want. I'm pretty sure that's the case. You have to read the fine print on these things.

This is a good attempt at white house spin, but you're going to have to clean it up around the edges before you trot it out in front of the press corps. ;)

This guy evidently also tried to downplay or curtail U.S. support for international condom programs, to fight STDs. And replace them with absinence programs. And he promoted "anti-prostitution" oaths, for international AIDS groups who are fightingAIDS and distribute condoms. But, he's banging prostitutes (and presumably using condoms) on the side.

So while your attempt at spin was a valiant effort, please clean up the other contradictions . Thanks. ;)

Well, so long as the prostitute isn't married you haven't broken one of the Ten commandments. Fornication is a "sin" but less so than breaking a commandment....

Tax, my buddy's mom is being nominated by Bush to fill this position. I asked him if we get any massages as a benefit to knowing him. He didn't find it to funny.

Well, don't get too excited. By all accounts they were "non-sexual" massages. According to that Bush official guy, anyway. Must have been pretty good ones too, at $300 a pop. Ooops, "pop" was probably the wrong word to use. At any rate, I've never paid more than $75 bucks for a legitimate therapeutic massage, so these gals must have been awesome.
