Bush Claims dem congress will raise taxes

"If you want to keep your tax cuts, vote Republican on Nov. 7," Bush said at a fundraiser for former Republican Rep. Mac Collins, who is seeking a comeback to Congress. He is challenging Rep. Jim Marshall, seen as one of the most vulnerable Democratic incumbents.

"Next month, our nation has got this choice to make," the president said. "Do we keep taxes low so we can keep this economy growing? Or do we let the Democrats in Washington raise taxes and hurt the economic vitality of this country? ... This decision will have a huge impact on the working people all across the United States of America.

Bush singled out the voting record of House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi to ridicule her declaration that Democrats "love tax cuts." The president said Pelosi, likely to be House speaker if Democrats win control of that chamber, voted against reducing the so-called marriage penalty, phasing out the inheritance tax and cutting taxes for small businesses and families with children.

"Given her record, she must be a secret admirer" of tax cuts, Bush said of Pelosi, earning appreciative laughs from the friendly audience of GOP donors. "If this is Democrats' idea of love, I wouldn't want to see what hate looks like."

she does love taxes.... look at her record.

I take that back. UNLESS the cuts are renewed they will expire. Nothing to veto. They must be voted on again to keep the cuts in place.

No, this is simply added to the other mantra. It is disingenuous to say that they wouldn't though. Y'all have been complaining about his tax cuts for how long now?

Not hardly US, it is the libs who can't seem to grasp more than one concept at a time. and they have a plan..........homos in the republican party.

Well either have to raise taxes and or cut spending Damo. The cons used to support a balanced budget, what happened to them ?

The libs admit they are going to get rid of the tax cuts and that is a tax increase. Bush is just telling it like it is.

Yep, bush can veto, because no way the dems will get 1/3 majority right now to override a veto.
It is just more Bush hyperbole.

Not true. The current cuts expire if they are not voted back in. Veto won't stop that from happening.

Ohh so Bush is misleading again. What will really happen is what a republican led congress decided upon.
No, what will happen is the compromise that happened when the Ds led the Senate by one. What parallel universe are you living in?

veto has nothing to do with tax cuts. they will expire if not renewed. I corrected my orginal mistake.

And what was the senate vote on this Damo ?
Did all vote along party lines ?
Very close. After the compromise a few Ds crossed over.

Each time Bush tries to make them permanent a small coalition of more liberal Rs stops it. It's a give and take. They later extend them in a vote....

However, the tax cuts will expire and it is because of the D compromise that it will.

The fact remains that it was a republican sponsored bill that got passed into law. and now because the cuts expire in the republican sponsored law they blame the demoncrats ?? Amazing.
